It's not really windsurfing without wind. Surprised they're not wearing boardies over wetsuits ;)

why wouldn't you just use the board without the sail? there's no wind to help rotate the board.

More ammo for the tea-baggers? I can hear them already "see - you poleys can't plane out of a jump."

04:00 ... Pushloop into Taka? I wouldn't be surprised if Richardo pulls that one off at the next proper wave event.

Hmm.

So there's no water so we build a pool. But there's no waves so we build a wave machine. And there's no wind so we tow-in with a jet-ski. And there's not enough natural energy so it's gotta be sponsored by Red Bull. Not quite sure that I get it,although it does look kinda fun. No wonder the planet's warming. At least the talent is genuine.

Kinda glad I'm heading for Maui soon.

has to be a bit of skill in just getting the tow bit sorted?

such skill could be useful when you are on sinker board and wind suddenly drops

It's not warming... it's cooling. Didn't you read the paper today? Apparently Santa and the Easter Bunny will help them fix the situation.

But doesn't seem to make sense??? If getting towed, wouldnt that large cumbersome sail thingie slow you down even more??

I guess we could also say that about a massive inflatable leading edge that adds drag, edging the board which is less efficient than planing with fin lift, and using about 1.5x more area in the same wind.

Inefficient, yeah.

Chill dude, dont get on the defencive.
Was talking about being TOWED in, wouldnt a big sail slow you down and be counteractive to using a stink ski to gain speed?????
Wouldnt they get more speed and hight without the sail making wind resistance less?? Or do you disagree with what I learnt at skool ?lol

^^^ "large cumbersome sail thing" was obviously yet another piss take - how original. Again and again......

given your logic we will see you ditch the rag and go surfing (ONLY) from now on.

This stuff makes perfect sense to me. ^^^

You see... there's no wind happening, [absolutely calm in fact] but hell, there are waves to ride.

The waves might be in a pool but the line-up looks pretty thin so your wave count will be good.

So naturally you go tow-in poleboarding cause there just happens to be a few spare jet-skis hanging around.

I'm guessing most tow-in poleys would rig up their smallest sails cause it's totally calm.

(You do the opposite of what's normal).

lol.

Or maybe some might rig up large sails cause they want some hang-time.

Who knows, it's not an exact science.

It reminds me of kids riding their razor scooters in the skate park (without the jet-skis of course).

There's the scooter handle-bar (boom),,,

there's the third leg attached to the skate deck (mast),,,

and there's the concrete ramp (wave).

And I love the colour of the water in the wavepool.

Ditch the rag,,,lol another piss take , lol you taught me well.
Yes, I go surfing only ,when there is no wind.???? Who doesn't who enjoys surfing waves ??
Again, chill dude, all Im saying is wouldnt the sail be slowing them down?? Can u agree on that?? lol

Edit...When waves are too big and dredging dry we tow in surf.
When no waves or wind to kite we go cable boarding or winching, but wouldnt fly a 19m huge cumbersome kite(or rag as you bag it.) through the air as it would be counter active??? no???

^^ well ya see all the windsurfers agreed it was silly due to no wind.

But you took it up a notch with talk of cumbersome and "sail-thing" - but we knew you would.

Try originality dude.

End nice edit after I posted a reply. Yet more predictablity

I apologize that I added a bit more to my post but didnt think you would return post so quick (wow speed demon) after me. I added a edit. in front of the bit I added so to clarify.

I still think the big sail would make it cumbersome but we will have to agree to disagree on that. goodnight.

Sorry Mark_A but I think lotofwind might be right this time.

If they ditched the sails and didn't rotate, spin, roll or loop either the sail, the board or themselves and they didn't use the wave to generate any lift or power, they could then call those manoeuvres 'mega-loops' and it would be soooooo much gnarlier, man.

And they could than also add lots of these things after every comment

Exactly, and it probably got more media coverage for windsurfing than the entire Olympics race series. Pretty easy to organise and visually a bit of a novelty. It will be interesting to see the return of indoor windsurfing this year. Now that's a lot of effort for a pretty silly event.

Am I reading that everyone thinks this stuff is NOT cool?

I got a wildcard to do the PWA Indoor Event next month in Poland and all I've been reading on the web this week is people complaining that it's "stupid" and "not windsurfing" and even some major windsurfing online mags didn't want to cover it because it's not "true" windsurfing...

bahhhhhhhhhhhh. these kinda exhibition formats are SUPER rad and I hope we do a bunch more of them!

Personally I enjoyed the days of indoor events - and see those as completely different to the wave park thing. Indoor events have sailors powered by wind (even if it is artificial) that complete their moves/races, and the close quarters makes for some fun action. Watching guys at a wave park being dragged by a jetski then flop around into a crash landing would probably be exciting for a couple minutes if you were there in person with a beer in each hand and a few inside already...watching a video of repetitive drag to crash manoovers tho not so much
