In a surge of inspiration on the thursday night before the event i decided to set myself the challenge of shooting pre race interviews, racing , shoot the presos and then getting a quick and nasty edit done.
The Race was really enjoyable- technical gusty wind with some really light patches
I have been tuning up some Severne NCXs (on RDM wave masts and cheap ally booms) as i have this crazy idea that no cams can be competitive with cam sails. CAN NOT TALK THESE SAILS UP ENOUGH.
No cams, easy rigging, fast, massive wind range, light - very sweet to gybe.
I am confident that with some more tuning and technique there is actually quite a lot more speed on offer than what i extracted The 7.5 had heaps of power for the 10 - 16 knots that was on offer down the course. I set her a bit tight in the leech and let the sail just touch the boom - no adjustable outhaul.
I actually had the edit done by 8.50 (the presos finished at 7.40 ish ) but had a hiccup with Telstra and my mobile data connection. 3 calls to the philippines had that sorted out in 40 minutes.
My entire low profile camera (DSLRS) and edit suite (Macbook air/ thunderbolt drive) weighs less than 7 kg and all fits into a backpack - technology is amazing these days.
Got the edit done (flew through it on the Macbook air (via proxies if you must know) ) and got myself into the event village for some beers for the last half hour of festivities.
Newson, Severne and Milky were in fine form with the hijinks!
