How to lock my car with a bloody keyless entry and still go surfing/windsurfing??
New car OK, key sends message to car when you are within about a meter and you can just open the door without having to press buttons. The transmitter has a removable key which I have been removing from the key transmitter , putting in my leg rope or trailer and leaving the transmitter inside the car locked, however if someone smahes a window, opens the door, because the transmitter is inside, the bloody car will start by turning the start knob,
Can't hide or lock (surflock) the keyless transmitter outside the car as it will still work as it is to close to the car. The doors will open for anyone who tries to unlock it.

yes I read the car keys thread and the surflock as I said will not work, and I surf alone most of the time, and I'm not takeing aquapak or plastic bags with this thing in the water, it is a bit bulky.

So is it a transponder that will allow the car to start if within a certain distance of the sensor for it? If so, when hiding it inside the car, have you tried wrapping it in aluminium foil to inhibit the signal from the transponder? Have you tried hiding it in the boot?

You could disconnect a battery terminal before going out sailing but perhaps that would stuff the whole sound, engine management and half a dozen other systems up. Something along Nobody's idea could work. Perhaps a lead lined box under the seat would block the radio signal.

Cars are getting too smart, how much effort is it to put a key into the ignition?

I havn't wrapped it, I'm looking for a more secure way of keeping locked, and it doesn't matter where it is in the car, boot or otherwise, it will still start.
I might try a surflock with it lined with foil or something, thats if the bloody thing will fit in it. If its locked under the car it might not register.
I can remove the manual key from the transmitter but you still can't start the car without the transmitter in proximity, if the battery goes flat in the transmiter you connect the two together and this disenguages the engine immobaliser, so there goes that idea of just taking the manual key to the beach.
Aquapac, allright for windsurfing but I really don't want to paddle around with on of them strapped to me..I worry about leaking or losing it.
Disconnecting battery, to hard, stereo to reset and god knows what else.

What type of car is it? Nearly every make of car these days has some enthusiast group running a forum on the net, I would ask on there as you can be sure someone else with your same car has had the same issue.

The best thing a surf lock, it's a combination lock device with a bottom section for the key. Really solid and safe.
I just hang it off one of the hitch points on the back of the 4wd.
If I get a chance I will take a photo.

Keyless entry is very cool, was playing with one at work last week, but I fear a Surflock won,t work for a keyless entry unless you place it far enough away from the car. If you put the remote in a surflock and attach it to the towbar for example the car will be unlocked as it will be transmitting.
I think aquapak is the go.

Will try the surf lock but if it still transmits thru the lock it will still be usless.
Will try car forums later if the surf lock doesn't work.

Can't you take the battery out of the transponder?

surflock works, just gotta put it on the front wheel, to close to the sensors on the tow bar and rear wheel.

Remove the EFI's fuse. This will be a temporary solution until you can find a
better one. (make sure nobody is watching you).

Agree. They have one for keys. You can't fit much in, I only manage my car key and credit card, licence, cash etc. It has a strap to hang it around your neck and it fits comfortably under a rashie/wetsuit. You don't notice it on the water, and the ^%@@!! can't flog your car and cards.

Good to hear you have solved it. If you find that for what ever reason the front wheel lock position starts to register with the sensors, here is another idea.

Still use the surflock, but find some permanent fixture, say 10 metres away and padlock it to that (say a signpost, amenities block gate, big tree) granted to do this you may need a small lenth of chain as the "U" section of surflock is not that big.............just a thought

I am in the market for my next vehicle, and like the shape and size of the VRX Sportsback. Would love to hear how the VRX sportsback is going after say a few thousand k's......what you love/hate about it.....please message me if you think of it

Obviously Surflock isn't going to be a good option for a desirable car. If it is worth enough money to them, they will come along with whatever equipment is necessary in broad daylight and steal it. With the Surflock or other means of external key locking they have the added benefit of having the original key and not having to damage the car to access it. I'd say anything that is worth more than $10K is still going to be at risk with external key locking (that isn't also hidden).

I'll try and find a place under the car out of sight that doesn't register, just tried it on the wheel at the surf shop to see if it was a possability. It only works in about 70cm radius so it should work in a place under the car.
No matter what I do its still going to be a target, but I'm not the only one and if I done everything to make safe I feel better, if it still goes, well thats what insurance is for.

Better still, use the surflock as a decoy. Put a key that doesn't work in it. Put the right key under the bumper bar.
