If you use firefox you can get an add on like netvideohunter.
There are heaps of add ons / programs etc out there that can "capture" vids off utube etc. Some files will be downloaded as .flv - you might need to get a "converter" program like vlc to do the conversion to .avi format.

anyone else got some ideas??

I like the downloadhelper add on for FF - converts .flv automatically to something that even WMP will play

It's also as simple as joining Vimeo, then you have the option to download the original file

Edit: should note the caveat is that the original user must enable this...which seems not to be the case for this video. In this case refer to above posts

By watching the video, you are in effect downloading it.

Look in the "Temporary Internet Files" folder and sort by either

i) file size
ii) file type
iii) internet address

to find it. It has file extension .flv and there are many free players you can download to play it.

VLC media player is a good start.

Cheers!

PS : This also applies to YouTube and other similar sites.

A good program for downloading is Orbit downloader. Once you install orbit go to tools then open grab. With this you can download most video and audio files that are playing.

'Temporary internet files' folder is located here in case you have trouble finding it. (windows xp running Internet Exploder. (or something like that)
C:Documents and Settings*username*Local Settings*Temporary Internet Files
{edit} DANG it keeps deleting the backslash. Pu tin a backslash where i now put in * {edit}

(And username is your username on your compuda. of course.)
Its easiest to sort by filesize because .flv files are always in the gigabyte range so they will be right at the top. You might have to rename them and change the file extension to .flv if it comes up as .mp4 when you copy it.

Also, not all you choobs write to the temporary internet files and I haven't found where they do write them.
