My 2014 iSonic 130 wood (85cm wide) could do with being replaced. I'm sticking with iSonics so looking out for a 2nd hand 17/18 replacement. The last wood construction was in 2016, and since been replaced with various carbon constructions.

In 2011, I bought a new iS137 carbon (the grey coloured one), I hated the carbon feel and after just 5 or 6 back/knee vibrating sessions, I replaced it with a new iS137 wood, way better for all day sailing.

Has the newer iSonic carbon construction improved on comfort or am I still going to hate them? If I end up going for a new 2020 iS85, I'm guessing the cheaper carbon construction will give a more comfy ride than the carbon reflex? Or have I got this wrong and it's actually the opposite way round? Other iSonic constructions include LFC and hybrid carbon, are either of these more comfortable than older carbon?

That's exactly why they make Futura.

I tried the Futura's, nice but not for me. I'm sticking with iSonics, mainly because my other boards are iSonics too.

Me, I'm not good enough to ride an Isonic over a Futura, Speedster, or SuperSport.
Straight line, Isonic is just fine. Curves favor fast freeride, but most important is control in 2'windswell when powered on 6.5 sails.
We always get 2' swell in 22 knot winds, enough to jump 7' high with a 5.2 and FSW board.
Below 18 knots, Isonic s fine....but so is wind and wing foiling.

Great question. I loved my wood Isonics for the same reason. I wish wood constrution was still an option on the Isonics!

The general handling in chop has improved quite a lot in the isonics. Carbon hasn't become any softer to ride on unfortunately.

What subsonic said but there is two levels of carbon in isonics in 17 hybrid and reflex. If you get the hybrid carbon it's not as harsh as the earlier carbons plus they are a softer ride design anyway.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll hold for a good used 17 hybrid 137 or wait to see if the rumours are true about SB reintroducing wood technology back into the isonic range.for 2021.
