Help needed
I'm totally confused with the advise for different types of of mast for my quiver .I have a tushingham bolt 5.2 and a severne 6 ncx that I'm using a north viper %100 sdm. Also have a severn e 7 ncx and a T4 8mtr that I use a tushingham 460 %100 sdm.
Had mixed advice on what is suitable for the 7 ncx and T4 .would It be better suited to change my 460 tush for a uni fiber or a north sdm ?I believe my 430 viper is fine for the bolt and 6 mtr ncx..? (Severne masts to expensive )
Help !

Yeah you've got a real mixture ...tushingham .will work with most north sail mast .but don't get rid of the viper 100 ..great mast ..the 430 viper will probably be to soft for the severne sails ..they like a hard top not a constant curve like north and Tushingham .
Other mast that are suitable for your Severne sails are either Naish and Gaastra .Both hard tops ..I also have some ncx sails and I use the 90% naish mast on them .work perfect .was using the north mast on them but lost all the power of the sail and didnt get any performance out of them .uni fibres are ok ..( cheap).but don't have the quality of the north or severne or tushingham mast ..
T4s great sails.
shop around for a second handie.

Thanks for info Tardy your right about the north mast it's real good and seams to work on bolt and 6mtr severne but no sure about the tush on that 7mtr severne.

It Will work ..ok ....as mine did ..but was just too soft ...it wasnt till I used the correct stiffer mast that I got the full power out of the sail ..
the top end of the sail increased by 45% more speed ..it was great.

I ve mixed up my sails a bit to so have to carry both masts types..

tushingham ,ezzy ...sails. north mast and ezzy .

naish ,severne sails ....Naish mast ...

I know it is not much help but you do need to rationalise the quiver a bit, try and pick a brand. Tush is a bit tip flex, and Severne a bit hard top. Cambered sails particularly need curve and dia correct obviously, so at least you don't have that worry
Using middle of the road bend curve masts will enable you to use Severne and Tush on the same mast but it is not ideal. How far from ideal varies.
Pics of the sails rigged to spec would help a lot.
Why do you say severne too expensive? About the same as all the others...?

I can trade in my tush 460 in for a north platinum aero 460 %100 do you think this will be better for the 7 ncx? Have attached photo of the 6 ncx on my North viper 430 %100.

I don't think you'd solve much by changing the mast ..from tush to north for your 7.0
pic.yes you see how the looseness in the sail is in the middle not as much up top
where it should be.?its the constant curve mast ...my severne sails rig similar on the north
but that's how they loose power to quick ..they look great rigged...but ..they don't reach their full potential .
get a good Naish ..or severne ...mast on it and you will notice alot of difference ...

Last few years I've been using a sailworks 460 constant curve mast on my 7.5m Severne Overdrive. Everyone told me it wasn't rigging properly but I only had that mast. That sail died and I've since got a 7.8m OD with a Severne mast to suit .What a difference?
I used to get overpowered easily with the 7.5m ( 64kgs) whereas now I can hold the 7.8m in wind as strong , it's less effort, better balanced and much more fun!

I am naive to think it would be nice for the sail manufacturer to give not just the usual bull **** message that can only use their recommended mast for their sails but a list of alternative suppliers masts that would work (for them of us who have existing masts ) Gess that's not good business sense. And they wouldn't be able to rip us off with their recommended kit !

check out Unifiber - they have masts by year ( within last about 5 years )
which is good cuz Maui Sails are now Constant Curve ie changes occur !!
