I have a fanatic board where the deck grip layer in places is just lifting off the deck and then chips away or keeps lifting off some more.
Wondering how I can stop it from spreading over the board or any other helpful tips on avoiding it.

What is it? More description required as there's too many possibilities
eg: if its 15 years old and stored in the sun all day every day its to be expected that UV damage makes stuff fall to bits.
If its 6mths old and not subject to any rough treatment then they clearly didn't prep the surface properly before spraying.

Fanatic FreeWave STB 2018, not sure how they are meant to prep the deck beforehand but once the deck grip comes off it is slippery smooth.
Great video that Paul made with you, now when you post I can put a face to the name rather than a guy with his finger up his nose.

I don't think the product is of the best quality either. Have already replaced the foot straps and as I look out the window my starboard foot straps are over 15 years old and still look great.

Prep would be a light scuff of the paint and wipe over with a wax n grease remover. If they miss spots with either there will be a lack of adhesion. (Care/attention to detail) Even if that's done right, somebody picks up the board after lunch with greasy fingers and you end up with spots all over...

In that case, I think someone might have used it as a lunch table to eat their pad Thai on. Between front and back footsteps is bare and the previous owner has glued down a piece of sandpaper looking stuff. Do you think the best thing to do is just let it keep coming off and when it gets too bad then take it to a pro to get redone?

definitely...... sanding it off without hitting the graphics takes care........ i'd go at it really hard with a plastic scraper to find the good part (if any..... then lightly sand the good part and regrip all of it.
Its not hard to do yourself, and get something a little better than the factory grip (rougher, more durable roughness)

I tried to re-grip a few years ago and used sugar but I must of mucked up something as it did not have much grip. I had a quick look online and saw Nautix Grip. Would that or something similar be good to use?

I am thinking I really should weigh my boards, when I buy them. So another places that it is pealing off is next to the mast track. I can lift it up with my fingernail and it will come off a little more. But there is no impact point, no spot that shows there has been a hit. Definately no delam as when I lift off or look at the exposed area, I can see decals and color of the board. I think I will just let it get worse and reassess at the end of the season (about August). Plenty of time to scratch my head and take my time with a repair. Deck pad top layer is also going so I might add that to the list, along with a repair from the previous owner which could do with some sandpaper.

The video looks like Remie from Starboard giving the demo so it should be reliable.
Just a shame that something can happen to such a young board. I think fanatic/cobra have a few things to answer for.

I use Dunlop glue, its actually designed for sticking astro turf down to concrete and you can buy it from Bunnings.

Used it on SUP boards, windsurfers etc and it works well. It can be a little messy and use a well ventilated room as its pretty potent.

Is that for deck pads?
I tried contact cement before and that's crappie. Then someone suggested wetsuit repair glue and that worked very well.

Dam I miss Bunnings, here the shop people have less idea than me.
