Greetings sailing brethren. I am in need of experienced and learned views. I have recently acquired a larger volume 120lt freeride board with the traditional slalom footstrap configuration. Having had a couple of 6.3 blasts on my new toy I am really surprised at how this board rides and controls and feel I could actually set it up with a typical wave footstrap configuration and get a bit more out of the board. A bit of a bonus considering the gap i wanted the board to fill. What I would like to try is a single rear footstrap but the problem is that the board does not have the required inserts to make this happen. Has anyone had any luck making up an adapter that can fit into the existing inserts that can secure a central footstrap in this instance? I am keen to give this method a go if I can get it to work…. I have a few ideas, but rather than reinvent the wheel - or buy yet another new board and face the ever increasing wrath of "She who Must be Obeyed"... I have sort your ideas and views...

Yup.
Strips of stainless steel about 75mm x 25mm bolted to the footstrap so it sticks out laterally a couple inches each side (perpendicular to the strap). Hole in each end for a standard screw to go into the insert. Picture an "H" shape with the strap and two strips of metal.

But the stainless must not bend so really it needs to be a good 4mm thick and tempered.. not your usual hardware store stuff.
Try an old urinal (serious) at a scrap metal / salvage yard, cut strips of 3-4" x 1" and sandpaper well, then araldite 3 layers togetehr. That ****e will not bend too easily.

Or if you have the gear, lots of carbon (10 layers plus) laminated with epoxy and cut into aformentioned strips.
Anything that is stiff as a pornstar's prong, and won't rust.

PS: yes, many of my projects at home have been made with recycled urinals.

err... as I said, scap metal place or salvage yard
Not many people buy them... duh, wonder why?
My main use for them in the past was for rally car sump guard bashplates, 1 x sheet stainless, 5x kevlar and 1 x stainless again, sandwich. Never bust those bastards.

I think the shire councils use them for the BBQ's in the park. You know the gas ones, where you look at them and say "oh how lovely and clean and shiny, stainless plate not cast iron, we may have a picnic here after all.". Yep, all used p!ss troughs.

Some good ideas there but what about glassing in some central foot strap plugs. Probably about the same amount of work.

Thanks for your feedback and brilliant ideas. As you can tell I got rid of the encyclopedia when Jordo came of age and was introduced into the magnificent world of windsurfing… we only have the internet to keep entertained with the forum and for imparting wisdom and other helpful information such as board volumes… wouldn’t have been a problem if the Young Rooster hadn’t swapped the 2 and 4 keys on the keyboard for a laugh!!

I also agree that adding the additional plugs is an option, but I really want to see if the board will perform as I suspect it might with my bulky 95kg frame first. Next project is well formulated … thanks again for your time, humour and more importantly raising the profile of the neglected stainless steel urinals deprived of the warm stream of mankind’s brewery waste.
