it looks like in euroland windsurfing is getting used occasionally in commercials etc.

recently canon used some footage of levi siver sailing to promote their new 5dmk4 camera (albeit not his most exciting sailing but still) , and just recently i saw some footage from sony promoting the new a6500 camera with a windsurfer looping in the waves

it seems to be making it back into mainstream media and the like?

I bought a plug in box for my TV to turn it into a "smart TV" now that I've got the NBN. The icon that it brings up on the screen to open YouTube is a windsurfer flying high.

The thing to think about is how many people do you know that have started windsurfing for the first time ever within the last 12 months? How much industry (shops and manufacturers) support have you seen trying to promote the sport and get new people to take it up. The industry looks to have given up on windsurfing here in Australia. The only people doing anything to actively promote it and bring new people in here in QLD is the YA centre at RQ and a few individuals that love the sport. I'm someone who has discovered windsurfing in the last 12 months.

I used to sail, coach and race Lasers. Then I thought I'd try windsurfing. The best sport I ever learned how to do. I self taught myself and I'm glad I picked it up. Windsurfing to me is like sailing times 10.

Scholarly research suggests that the majority of brand sponsorships are not mainly based on true target group considerations but due to the "hobby motive" of the brand manager / decision maker.

Probably the same here.

Interesting info Mr Spinout, if am I interpreting you correctly, you're saying that sponsorship is not necessarily part of a strategic business plan but more part of what the brand manager feels aligned with at the time.

Windsurfing on Oahu in Hawaii has really diminished. On a real good day there's about 6 guys out at once and I feel like calling the newspaper for the breaking news. That's why I'm on this great Aussie website.
