I am pondering upon whether it is worth a trip to Noumea at the end of September for a couple of weeks to hopefully get some consistent learning conditions for fast tracking learning to windsurf. I live where it is not the easiest place to learn but once the keys skills are learnt it is an amazing playground for windsurfing.

Anyone able to share what is predominantly the conditions for windsurfing in Noumea at this time especially for learning to Windsurf. Hire of equipment? Cost? Transport hire & cost? Comfortable affordable accommodation near the best place for learning?

I spent the first two weeks of september in Noumea last year. That is their least windy time of year, around 10 to 14 knots most days. If I had my big slalom gear I could have sailed every day but the biggest sail I could hire was a 6.5 as they mainly cater for beginners, so could be perfect for you. Most of the locals fly around on foils. The wind did come in a bit stronger the last day I was there thankfully and it is a fantastic place to sail. All the hotels are right on the beach at Anse Vata. Really liked the place but quite expensive.

Only been to Club Med for company conference many years ago. They had gear for use so brought harness & lines.
Good 15 knots every day
Weird to see the local islanders speaking fluent French.

Thanks Bigbear. Been doing some homework and it sounds like winds are not consistent in October because it is just the beginning of their windy season. AND yes it sounds like it is expensive.

Yes great place for conference when most of its free
It was a small company at that stage but grew and rewarded for results.
Did the laser race and came 2nd, bit rusty on tacking. The local water sports dude had his own windsurf gear and talked him in to having figure 8 and not tacking. Easy win slalom style
Yes great windsurfing and it was NZ winter, June?!

Last March family holiday to Cook Islands for partners birthday and not windy. Tried to hire windsurfing gear for 13 year old daughter but all gear broken and same with sailing dingy!
At Muri lagoon we hired inflatable sups, and looked at kiting and never windy. I went to darkside for few years before family.
In cook Islands there is another island that is awesome for wind during their "trade winds".

Spent 5 days in Noumea in October last year. Only had 2 days of sailing. Would have had one more day but wind in Noumea tends to show up later in the afternoon and the gear rental places start packing at about 3-4pm, so could not hire anything.

Stayed at Le Meridien, was very happy with my stay, but if you bring your own gear, Hilton or Nouvata would be better places as they are closer to the beach.

MyNewCaledonia sells flight+hotel packages, if you don't have to travel during school holidays, you can get a good deal, not really expensive compared to other destinations. Keep in mind that eating out in Noumea is very expensive.
