ok ill bite!

to start with the "march of progress" image is misleading, it implies evolution is a linear advance towards a final outcome.. or "higher species" (in humans infinite modesty, man is seen as the final goal of evolution,)

so evolution is not a march to one true final 'product' which is better than all others, but an adaptation to fill any ecological niche..

if I were to draw similarities to evolution.. windsurfing an kitesurfing cannot be seen as either primitive or more evolved, but filling a niche market.

windsurfing occupies an ecological niche where a sport is needed that is, retro, expensive, hard to learn and almost impossible to find anywhere consistently windy.. like, such as.. the Iraq.

kitesurfing occupies a wider niche that is similar, only less expensive and easier but more fatal to learn, less wind required, and so on..

both are valid species, id say kitesurfing would be the more adaptable wolf, and windsurfing would be the thylacine, less adaptable, but awesome in its own way..

and a abomination between them both is the doomed 'wind weapon'

Jim Drake is the man He is the reason why we all love surfing with funny looking sails on our boards. He is to blame, but boy am i happy he invented windsurfing. google starboard and Jim Drake. He is a legend and still loves to windsurf i read in a windsurf mag. He is still totally addicted to windsurfing

I would guess he dips the chip in chilli sauce first as well.

Windsurfers currently have a very small and declining population, it's called genetic erosion.
We, modern windsurfers, have a strong proclivity towards endogamy, I mean sports-wise of course

At my local beach, I saw 1-2 guys MAX this year teach windsurfing to friends and others. And when they do, they do it in the worst possible conditions.

The effect is that we deserve the high price of modern windsurfing equipment: it's simple low-volume economics.

Well if 32 is really that old?? Well i'll be, where is my walking stick gone?? I allways use my walking stick to walk my gear up to the water, before a free ride session, and the chicks love to see a old man with a bushy beard rip it up doing helitacks, jump jibes ect.. I allways come in after a session, and have most the time stacks of 21 year old chicks, that are your age lotofwind, yell ''hey flipper can I have ya autograph''
