A new trailer was needed so this time I took a few pics and video as the build progressed.
I needed something long enough that would fit 14'sups (On the wish list) WOD, race boards and slalom and speed gear.
Then it morphed into ....what about a fridge, stove,kitchen and sleeping accom ?
Which made it ideal for a WA trip

The result is this.....5.1m x 1.8 trailer at 2.2 high. No music and very boring if you're not into construction stuff.

Impressive especially given the limited space you were working in. All done with a stick welder as well by the looks and a lot of hours.
Maybe some new tyres for xmas.

I'll stick some plans up when I work out how to post the cad file. Computers not my strength.

New tyres and rims did go on, that one was a prop for the pics.

Both stick welders have been around for a while the new one is late 70s, the old one which works the best is 1961. Must have been cheap as it's only got a 1 yr warranty

Trailer Part 2.
A bit of music this time with a few road trip photos at the end.....Sorry

The trailer towed perfectly, weighed in at 1000kg unloaded with a 1500 kg max.
Fuel when towing across the desert was 14/16 L/100 in the Triton except when there was a head wind then it went to 22L/100
In all we did 12K in 2 months and had a great time catching up with mates and making a lot of new ones.
One of the best things about this sport is the people.

The hrs to built this were in excess of 400, the cost was around $6500 but the trip to WA was awesome and I'm looking forward to the next trip already.

If your not into photos of building, great holiday spots or windsurfing go no further.

Kato, you probably don't need it, being over there. I lined mine with a silver backed insulation cloth from Bunnings. Just liquid nailed it to inside. Worked a treat, and stays very cool during hot weather.

Looks super cool, but it would be great to have a shot of the inside once loaded with your gear. Also what is the opening roof for, just air flow? I am also planning a trip to WA next Dec. and Jan 2018, see you there !

Great effort

The composite paneling works very well in not transferring the heat, much better than tin. I looked at using "Foil Board" 10mm R2, which performs better than paper and is an easier install.

The roof vent is a modified "Muller" vent to provide positive air flow into the trailer when driving, the side ones pull the air out. Work's well, just have to work out a way of keeping the rain out.
No WA next year for me but have fun as its a place everyone should at least once.

You know, if you take up kite surfing, you could not only get out planning in lighter winds, but also fit all the gear you need on the back of a motor bike.
Would save you hundreds of dollars and give you more time on the water instead of spending countless weekend hours building trailers so you can get all that massive load of gear, thats obviously required to poledance, to the beach. Just say'n.

^^^You wont need to worry about that.
When you kite you get heaps of random hot chicks in bikinis giving you cold beer when you get out of the water, thats just how it rolls when you kite.

Beside trailer topic, that is very useful for everyday windsurfing, I have been thinking about something very useful but occasionally.One day as could design light but strong shipping box /container. Standard size that fit most gear needed.

For example 270 x 80 x 60 cm box.

Simple aluminium frame and lite skin made of aluminium sheet.

Now once in a year we want to organize trip to : Lake George, Burrum or Sandy Point for a sport event.

We could arrange truck to take all boxes on the way from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and deliver on site by LAKE GEORGE SA.
Then sailors could fly and rent a car or organize transport for themselves.

During the event all equipment could be safely storage in the boxes.Works case scenario you could even sleep in the box , better then in tent, only to turning on it side and opening cover/roof.Combining shipping for 30 our boxes on whole way Brisbane to LG shouldn't cost more then $100 pp if we have a good deal .

Well made box could last many years and even for everyday windsurfing - serve well with any box trailer or ute .

This way could save us building purpose made trailer and save on registration fee too.For discussion still remain generic standardized size that fit most of users, construction method , locks etc.
But the main reason for unification will be easy to transport, stack able design.

Having such agreed design we also could find a tradie that could build at lower cost 20 or 30 boxes.

I think your kiting buddies would disown you anyway if you were caught kiting in the Darth helmet.

I think some of us know that half the fun is in building something. You could buy a custom trailer, although more expensive, but where would the fun be in that.

No reason it would not work for windsurfing equipment as well.
When we went to Luderitz via Capetown, we got the following in just under our generous (double normal) airline weight limit of 56 KG:

1 x speed board
1 x speed sail
2 x booms
3 x RDM 100% masts
2 x RDM mast extension ans bases
Helmet, Harness, weight vest (no lead), a couple of fins and a few small tools and spare bolts.

We had extra sails coming back (the new sails we used were delivered direct to Luderitz from the factory) and no way it would have got under the limit.

If I go again I would only take two sails and two masts, but I very much doubt I could get it in under 60 KG with the lightweight bags. Excess baggage could be a killer expense, even with a lightweight aluminium container. And would it stand up to airline handling? GRP is probably stronger and safer but adds weight.

Not in the same league as the gear here, but my evolved trailer is ready for a new home, sorry if this is pimping but can't find where else to mention. Trailer is 6 by 4 by 1 deep perfect for home use with removable frame used for windsurfers/sups/kayaks. Have carried multiple wide sups and windsurfers on LHS, narrower sailboards and booms on RHS. Camping gear in box. Features a sealed lockable fibreglass storage box that holds 6 sails and other toys. Vinyl custom made zipper bag for 10 masts and sup paddles. New Supercat tyres on galv wheels. Spare tyre and wheel underslung with another custom zipper bag above for more gear. Bolt on sailtrack supplied allows for a roller awning to be added for camping (I am keeping my awning). Also included is overall cover of upper vinyl and the best sunbrella acrylic yacht fabric for total weather and security if you leave the trailer outside. Recent full rewire/light refurb. NO rust.

Can people stop replying.
