This is something you should all try. Get any old board give it a go. I've Wind skated for 35 years, not much now once or twice a year. Will get them going again soon. Hopefully I learn how to add a photo

: ) Too much turns? Just good adrenaline when you can't go on the water. Cheers!

Gjt101 your videos inspired me. 60 bucks on a second hand long board, old alloy boom buried in the garage, 5.0 sail on its way out, big car park at the local happy clappers (closed for covid) and I was up and running...

Hi Musorianin, cheap way to have fun! This sound good to me. : ) Better than watching the news! Have fun! It's all about fun, like joking! My best partner for windsurfing always said in french for fun C'etait de la marde, which mean something like Olskool said thats filth, a funny expression. : ) Let's drink to that!

Cheers!

"Riverlife" Baptist church, it's in a shed as big as a Bunnings and a car park to match, nice and high up to catch the westerlies.

I loved it, but had to give it up before I killed myself. This is a great sport for youngsters, but us older guys can get beat up pretty good. My last straw with windskating was when the front wheel hit a pebble in the pavement, the board stopped and sent me into a nasty catapult. My shoulder popped out and then thank God, popped back in. I had a few close call falls that could have been much worse. People should be wearing helmets, knee pads and wrist splints at the minimum. I never went out with out that protection. Again, lots of fun and I loved using a harness windskating which I never see people do, and the rush of windskating up hill. Someone clocked me going 25 mph skating up hill, but I'd rather fall off my board and hit water instead of hard pavement.

Thanks for your comment MagicRide. I thing windskating could be really dangerous but I think it could also be done safely. First, it's better to windskate for control than speed. First thing to learn, the brake, learning to constantly control your speed with the sail. Wearing safety helmet, gloves is good. Never use a harnest is also better.

Then, learn to trow your gear as soon as you have a doubt, like I did on the video at 1:57 .

Then, if you sail with steady wind, not to strong 10-15 knots, not some shifthy wind, and choose a clean parking, no sand. Then, you could practice whitout to much risk.

Windskating could be tamed. Could we say that!? You could go safely and learn every time. The position you have when you windskate safely is perfect for sailing on water. It's a win-win situation for the windsurfer who want to practice and have not always good enought conditions to go sail on the water.

Have fun windskating safely to practice many years!

Hi Oscardog, yes I did the half straps. I made many different ones. In the pass, I was using the rear one the other side than now. It was easier for some moves but a bit bitch. I was calling my skate the Scorpion in that time. With time, I went for more safety, the back strap open to the back is a lot more safe and do the job nicely. I did put padding both side of the rear one because I put my rear feet on it sometime, so it's more soft. If something hapen, If i have a doubt, I can get out instantly, like you could see at 0:55 on the video.

The rear strap is for experienced sailor, but the front one could help a beginner.

Cheers.
