Just out of interest how may of you are happy blasting around on older boards? I know i'm quite happy on boards up to about 10 years old. I must say tho i prefer my rigs a bit newer.just interested to see what others are riding and the average age of gear.

Still got and use a wally but they only made those in white so no incentive to update. I always want the latest colour, flavour in short boards, and a matching sail.....:p,..... A friend has got one of those 2003, 2004 Carves and if I could find one for sale I would buy it, so much fun to sail. I sailed a 2003 Fanatic Goya waveboard and though it was still fun it felt way to grippy and fast compared to the new gen boards

I gotta say I have had 3 Carves over the years ranging from a 123L to a mid 83 L and loved them. tho i now do prefer a little more volume in my boards 100-105L seems to work for me.

If 2006 is old (?), then I really enjoy riding my hand-me-down 93 Starboard S-Type. Build like a brick outhouse and hammers. Bit rough on the ocean for my liking. With a 5.8-6.6 sail and 20 knots of wind it is absolutely perfect for my river and lake blasting. My new boards, whilst nice and light, feel so flimsy in comparison... (generic web pic and happy days on the local lake :)) PS- Crank up HD or looks like it's filmed with a potato...

Ha Ha the only new board i have ever convinced myself to buy lol S type 93L was a great board on the flat water tho at that stage a bit beyond my ability to get the most from it. so sold it before i destroyed it. that was 2008 i think. swapped for a F2 SX medium no there's a board id id love to get back !

Still love using a 2004 Starboard acid 74 in 25kt+. So narrow (52cm) compared to more modern shapes, but it simply has no top end. Much more comfortable in crazy nuking conditions than anything else I've sailed.

yep I have an F2 AXXIS 103L ( the second one iv had ) its not pretty but i cuts through chop well and dose what i ask of it so i cant complain.

Not really a fan of narrow and pointy in waveboards anymore. But for winter nuclear wind B&J, you can't beat the older narrow FSW's. About 2004-7

Love my Starboard Kombat 85L but it is a tiny bit small for me now

I sailed down at Watermans Bay yesterday and there was this elderly fellow on a custom board from the 80's, i'd say about 9 foot and 26 inch wide. This had no name, hand drawn graphics and looked as if it was hand made in someones shed. Long, thin surfboard shape, with square rails, actually square everything and thick. But this guy loved it and could sail it. too bad my eyeball couldn't take a photo to share with everyone.

Have a JP free style wave board and north rig I got 10 years ago. Also got a Fanatic bee that is at least 3 years older. Still riding all the above as it is my newest and only gear. Would love to up date but funds and the amount of time I get to sail now days doesn't allow/warrant new gear. The JP board still goes well and every year I look at the new models and the write up on them . Those boards should be breaking the sound barrier now days as every year there write up says that there faster each year and gybe better

Bombora292 love this board . Mast track could be further back to suit new rigs but its indestructible & its nice to watch the flex in the chop.

Actiomax you beat me to it. I still sail my Bombora 295. First board I ever owned, got it about 1995. Heavy, indestructible but still my light wind choice. I've actually got 2 of them. Inherited my ex wife's as well. It goes through the chop rather than over it.

Sure do, still have my favorite 1990 Caveman speed slalom, double concave and handles the chop when the wind gets too strong and it's fast. I've tried my best over 20 years to destroy it but it just won't die! I have a newer 115 Naish Carbon but it's not as fun as the old girl mainly becaused I don't push it too hard as it is very fragile.

Sailed on the weekend on a 1984 500cs with an old 8mtr v8 rigged, worked a treat much fun was had. ( not original fin)

Still use my rrd. Fireball freerace board.more of a traditional outline only 60 cm. Wide was 275 long but cut the nose off now 255 cm it handles chop well & keeps up with the newer style boards .

I only just threw away my Tiga 275 Slalom. the plastic fantastic. awesome board, very fast. Did not gybe.

OH MY GOD I loved my mistral synchro 2006 91. Ate chop in the bay.

Until I put a crease in it. Tempted to get another

Also my 2003 JP freestyle wave 77 was better than every jp freestyle wave since - jumps higher, more controllable, more oomph, tracks smoother. I bought a 2008 version in carbon and it was rubbish. I gave my old one to my mate Dan who now sails it and waves at me.. it's like he's going out with my ex and sending me videos of them rooting.

hardly need centreboard, fin is good and able to put modern mast base on
glides well and can be used up to around 20 knots

I still use my 1990ish IMCO in the summers.

In higher winds I still use my 1997ish Protech 78l wave board and at the moment I use my Protech Z-26 course slalom board but may retire with a Starboard or JP model.

I'm thinking to make a youtube vid with my old 90's gen slalom gear and NP VX LTD / VX3. Would be fun to see how they feel as compared to my current stuff and GPS them.

At 4:15 can see the Z-26 in action, the design is from about 1998 or so. Protech probably built some of the most well constructed boards of the day, still better IMO than the current production stuff from Cobra. www.mikeslab.com/site.html

The best board I've ever owned, and still my favorite, my 2006 Pure Acid, it will be 10 years old in about 1 month, and still in great shape.

I do GPS and before I upgraded to a speedboard had got 32.6kts on the 68 ltre Starboad acid. I'm only a lightweight so wasn't using it in absolutely nuking winds prob 20-30kts.I still find it easier to sail than my speeboard although I've only had one go on that.

still use a astra surf eliminator race board ,late 80,s ,a speed 250 race board , a windaction slalom fiber glass , wave scalpel wave board ,1989,f2 zantos ,2000,presantly rebuilding a 1986 windaction and a bic salsa. i will sail these boards before my excite or super sport.also have a f2 axis 106 and the yellow wave board 82 looking for new homes both req regrip and straps

Picked up a couple of old Delta Euphoria's last year sitting in someones back yard. The 85L has been one of my favourite boards to use ever since. Go the old school! (Until I can afford another new board)

Yep. Picked up my broad around 2000. Super cute top-end, drop dead gorgeous bottom-end, and an all-round performer in any conditions. The best bump-n-bump broad I've ever had, and pretty damn good with freestyle too. Jumps into bed with delight. Up and down and up and down performance second-to-none; had to revise my whole rating system. Works beautifully from light and sensitive through to overpowered conditions. Have tried some newer models but they're not the same.

When the waves get big you can't beat the old single fins.

Is the deck grip still in good condition? Tends to wear out with overuse.
