Sorry if I'm doubling up - I did a search but couldn't find a previous thread.

Any recommendations for good, polarised water sunnies?

I have a pair of the Seabreeze ones, but (please close your eyes Laurie) have never found them comfortable. The frames are so small and snug with no padding that they kind of bruise. The arm screws have severely rusted and I've never been able to get the anti-fog or beading right. They usually last about 2 runs before I crack it and take them off. I'm sure they suit some faces - just not mine apparently!

Seems like there's a truckload of options out there - http://www.wearsurfglasses.com. Anyone found other brands particularly good?

I prefer the ones sold by the anti-Cancer Council that have a section in the side, to protect against rays coming into your eyes from the side. If you can't trust the anti-Cancer Council, who can you trust?

Also prefer a green tint for bright, sunny days and an orange/yellow/brown tint for overcast days.

Also, I prefer the arms to be bent over/around the ears, rather than the "head grippers".

After use, a wash using pump soap and a rinse in fresh water keeps the salt build-up away (I carry these all the time in my vehicle).

I prefer polarizing safety glasses as they can handle impact better without popping a lense

Bunnings Sunnies. They are safety glasses, so they won't scatter if you face plant the boom or mast. $13. Get the ones with no frame (so they don't have blind spots). As Sean Hogan would say "you won't cry if you lose 'em !" :)

After trying several ( 7 to be exact) of the major players i can say with complete confidence that spotters are the best sunglasses for anything on the water, in particular there halide series.

All bar one pair were lost at sea windsurfing but now i simply thread the wetsuit sunny strap through my hat and not only do they float, there easy to find.
They aren't cheap but the clarity, glare reduction, anti fogging and the overall build quality of spotters in my opinion is top notch.
A strap alone will float them but all the ones i lost i simply could,nt find.

I get blurry vision/bad headaches after a full afternoon on water with most of the non polarised or plastic lenses, oakley, bolle e.t.c. even on overcast days.

If you can justify the price $250-300 i rate them the best I've tried or if you go snorkelling around warnbro sound you can get at least 6 pairs for free!

I use the Bunnings safety glasses too.

(1) the Seaspecs that look same as Seabreeze ones (on eBay for about $40 from memory)


(2) Bali fake Oakleys, throw out the lenses and replace with the aftermarket aussie made safety glass/polarized ones on ebay for about $30. A way to get really good sunglasses that you won't mind losing maybe

Cancer council polarised. 40 bux. Best for your eyes and helps see all the sharks, turtles and rays just before you hit them.

Thanks so much. So most people don't seem to worry about the surf/water ones with the ventilation then? Normal sunnies with a floating strap just as good? Sweet!

I use the Oakley water jackets, they have been discontinued but sometimes they pop up on ebay, great glasses however not cheap
