Do you include the cutout for the tee-nut in the total length of the track, or ignore it?

I prefer to ignore it as that part of the track is not usable.

You just answered the question. The cut-out is unusable so it doesn't count. Just measure what is useable and then find the center.

i would have tended to agree
i remember once it used to be 135 cm from the tail

but i sold the board where i had marked that and cannot find any photos of the track

some newer boards like the SB AtomIQ have markings on the track

found an old post from SB where the photo seems to indicate that the insertion point is included !!

the difference is minor and you should adjust as you see fit !!!

You look at mast track stick your thumb up and eye it up. And go there'll do.

This is not the centre of the track ,it's where Starboard recommend to put the base so the board will be balanced.

Adjust to conditions and sail size is my conclusion,
If it s choppy mast back from centre ,bigger sails ,or just planning conditions ,smooth water ...forward.
but I agree with the diagram above ,don't include the nut cut out.
all my boards are marked ,
remember all the old F2s they had the word speed right at the rear end of the track .
wasnt always the case .

yes, it is the recommended position and in the literature it is called the MIDDLE

but that middle or the "other middle" are almost insignificantly apart

the in-between is called "t'aint"

I always thought it was forward for control in chop and overpowered..back for flatwater and speed.. ?

The important thing is to move that mast base and see what happens. A 1 - 2 cm move can make a big difference, particularly for shorter boards.

I always have my nose up when I'm ocean sailing and there's chop or swell ..mast a little back from the middle ,the last thing you want is the front rail and nose digging in .
but your right about the overpowering ,mast forward will keep the nose down ,and thats what comes up first .
I wish I could go sailing without having to tune to condition s ,at least once .
everyone is different ,all my mates sail different ,to me ,I jump on their board and have to change it straight away and they do the same with mine, when we swop.
