Hi, Planning a vacation to Mexico and would like to have suggestions of places to go in December for good windsurfing in mexico or closeby. Looking for a place I can rent a board for a week while on vacation and maybe some classes as well for a few hours. I have been doing windsurfing for 3 years now and want to have a great time over the holidays doing what I love

thanks for any tips

Mexico is a big place facing two oceans. Any particular area you are thinking about? Cabo San Lucas, for example, is a long way away from the resorts in Cancun and Cozumel.

Lake Arenal in Costa Rica is a great place that time of year from what I understand (yes, not Mexico but "in the area" and very windsurfing-centric. Great surfing on the coasts)

Came across this while fact-checking my short post: www.iwindsurf.com/travel.iws?genID=25

La Ventana or Los Barriles in Baja.
Punta San Carlos doesn't blow in Dec-Feb...in Baja.

In addition to what LeeD said about the wind, PSC needs a south swell to really be good. No south swell in northern hemisphere winter (December).

thanks to all for the recommendations. I mentioned Mexico but anywhere south of USA would be great. I want somewhere warm and less than 5 hour plane ride.
- La Ventana
- Los Barriles
Lake Arenal (costa Rica)

are so far the recommendations. I have been looking in Puerto Rico but did not find anything. I also read about Dominican republic (cabaret), any feedback about this place?

Looking for good windsurfing schools to hopefully transition from Beginner to Intermediate.

thanks to all for the help

Cabarete has the best wind in the early summer (June), since it gets a thermal boost.

Winter can be better for waves, but the wind is less reliable. It can also have a shore break in winter that's absent in the summer.

Otherwise a nice place with good gear rental at a few different places. I've been there perhaps ten times, but the last time is a few years back.

Just got back from 2 weeks in Puerto R. Been going for a month every Christmas for 9 years now.
Winter is 4 days a week of over 15-21 mph wind in the coast, N or S. Like anywhere else, gotta drive to find it as it can localize and miss spots 20 miles away.
Best swells are winter.
Bring uphaulable wave board and 4.5 to 6.0 wave sails.
NE corner is best for wave sailing.
S shore for flat water in winter.
We stay on the NE shore..7 seas, Luquillo, RioGrande beaches.
Will explore Ceiba and Loiza-Pinones when g/f gets bored with flat water.
