The iwindsurf forum has been disabled for a while now, so where are the people now: some Facebook group? It was a paid forum for a while but it's now gone completely. I still use the iwindsurf weather app.

I have been here for quite a while, the idea of paying to chat in a forum was a bit ridiculous to begin with ...

was never active user of that forum; the weather app is still a solid resource though! most chatter seems to be on locally/regionally focused FB groups and the like.

It was a nice community at iwindsurf. John Ingebritsen was a regular there and made lots of great posts alas no more. Remember him? Then there was this other guy 'isobars' etc etc.

It's been dead for years. Isobars had a nasty crash on his jet ski.

Was that before or after he fell down the rabbit hole. Guy used to be very helpful back in the rec.windsurfing days (seriously dating myself) but in the last years there spent most of his time promoting his "viewpoints" . Ingebritsen was always pushing people (in a good way to enjoy all kinds of conditions. Ran across him a couple times in real life and he was the same way.

The US never seemed to have a good central meeting place partially owing to how different the sport was in different locations (e.g. the summer conversation could be radically different between the Gorge, the MidWest and Florida) and how far people would need to travel to interact in real life. Even with FB, etc conversation tends to be regional or local; and really depend on the local culture/scene.

Sadly, iwindsurf US forum is gone so I am moving here, I hope it is ok. There was not much going on there, but there was good to post announcements for people without Facebook.

I'm based in the US. I used to browse the iwindsurf forums for discussion and info, never really participated. Reddit is also an option, and is somewhat active, but is also 50% "Is this OLD ANCIENT board a good deal, seller is asking $1284". There's not a large amount of actual informed/technical discussion of gear or technique there.

Now I'm here instead.
