Wellington Point

If you want an easy wave sailing place on the east coast of Australia have a look at South West Rocks which is the town next to Trial Bay. People use both these names to refer to the same place. Its a big northward horseshoe shaped bay. In summer we get a NE seabreeze while is sort of cross shore into the bay. The swell will wrap around the point and go straight into the bay giving good jumping and the possibility of cracking your first planning carve gybe as you can bank your carve on a swell and then surf the wave back in on the new tack.

South West Rocks is a top spot for beginners through to more advanced windsurfers. You will have to organise your gear before hand though. The closest windsurfing shop is in Port Macquarie, around an hour drive away.

I suspect you'll have a hard time finding gear to rent on the East Coast, there's a a few more options in Perth.

If you're lucky someone on here might be able to point you toward East Coast rental though

Thanks for tips, I hoped to find some rental on the beach some place. It will be a lot of gear to drag around. We are 3 adults and 4 kids, and nobody wants to be left behind on the beach. Are you sure they have rental of windsurfing in Port Macquarie?

Sydney has rental gear and SUP at WindSurfnSnow - a big shop in the northern beaches of Sydney. You can stay at the lakeside caravan park in Narrabeen. We have our own team Norway in Dee Why too

Hey i hope you have a nice trip to Australia - i have enjoyed 3 holidays to Norway to visit friends and loved it. Great country. Friendly people. The Fjords are unbelievable.

When you come to Australia you will likely travel on the East Coast of Australia because it has the big popular cities and nice forests/beaches. You will find hundreds of surfing spots in QLD, NSW and VIC, including surfboard hire at many locations wherever you go. Unfortunately windsurfing hire is less common.

Across the other side of the continent you will find Perth - it is a long way from the East Coast (4-5 hours by plane) but it has BOTH surfing and windsurfing - and lots of hire equipment available. The windsurfing community is huge, a variety of locations, warm weather and one of the windiest cities in the world. The long trip is worthwhile as you will find beautiful beaches and just to the south there is forests and wineries.

In the middle is South Australia. It also has amazing surfing but the locations are quite remote - the best places are 600-700km from Adelaide including Penong, Streaky Bay and Elliston. Amazing places but perhaps difficult to get there on a short holiday.

Wherever you go, check the supermarkets for cheese - you can find Ski Queen in many places, particularly if it is close to a university or food markets.
Bring your own Snus. You can't buy it in Australia.

Gear is also available on the gold coast. Get in touch with surf FX and they can point you in the right direction.

Thanks and God dag! We do not want to spend to much time in car, or on airports during holidays. Maybe we should focus more on lerning the basic of pure surfing. We have quite good wind up here in the north, but not much breaking waves to practice surfing. When it comes to dealing with the gear for 7 people it is much easier with only a board under the arm. Snus is history for me, but thanks for the tip.

Brisbane
Gold Coast
Ask others about New South Wales.
You will have to collect it from the shop and pre-arrange it.

Surfboards are available for hire from every beach.

Definitely do a bit of windsurfing. It's nice warm water.

Here is my best tip. Buy a Malibu each. About. 8" to 9". Buy them second hand and sell them back to a shop when you leave. You will loose about $200 per board. Tour the east coast from Sunshine Coast Queensland. (There is no surf north of this ) to bondi beach Sydney.

No waves at Wellington point. Just mud and a long walk through it ....YUK .
I think Caloundra just North of Brisbane would be a nice spot. Golden Beach for beginners and Niell St or Happies for waves and experienced. Hire kit from Sunshine Coast sailboards. Beautiful white sand and blue water
Then Gold coast has the broardwater for beginners and many wave spots along the coast, hire kit Surf FX.
Going South from there I don't know.
