What's your ideal bodyweight to litres set up? For a run of the mill 20 knot seabreeze bay blast. I have spent to the 2 years on more litres than I normally would (105 litres vs 77kg bodyweight), but think I've enjoyed it more.

I'm 78kg and in that wind I have a100L Excite Ride with either a 6.5 or 5.8 depending on gusts. It will depend how choppy it is though. If it is choppy you might go down a bit on the board size.

Naish Koncept 110L
Sailed yesterday in 15kn
Sailed today in 25kn
Boards probably a bit too big to be comfortable in 25kn bay chop.
5.8 is my biggest sail.
I'd sail the combo up to 80% more than my other gear.

Interesting. At 77 kegs I usually sail a 6.6 and 105ltr. In 17 to 20 knots I love it, even up to 25 gusts. If its 20 to 25, I would probably rig a 5.5. Still a 105 ltr though.

AtomIQ100, 5.8m Ezzy tiger & 34cm powermax fin. 84kg sailor. 18-22 seems to be about the sweet spot for this setup for me.

That's the biggest gear I have, but can get going in 17kts with that setup.

Yep my most used set up, has been for years. Two SL58's over about 7 years, the Koncept's new and before that I had a 6.7 Loft Switchblade and before that a 6.7 Loft Blade. I have been in Mandurah sailing in shallow weed, so have been using a SL66 so less sink on take off but 90% of the time before and I guess after Mandurah it's been / will be the SL58, 6.6/7 AND 34 Venom. Actually on the left is said set up.

Am I doing something wrong

In 20 knots I'm on a 94 Kode with a 5.8 kult. That's ocean stuff. On flatwater a 6.4. I'm currently 77 kgs.

i REALLY need to lose weight
at 20 knots I am still using a 7 m² sail

NS Duke 6.9
here it is often choppy and gusty in those conditions
have been known to use my Mistral Equipe longboard in those conditions
heavyweight buddy had issues with his Hawk 135 and SW Retro 7-oh

At a nice steady 93kg and only a couple of years sailing under the harness.
A good solid 20kt Thommen Freex 115lt. If the wind is dodgy and looking like dropping Patrik Freeride 145.
6.5 Gator. This is a great sail. I use it from 15kts up to 30 if a front catches me out. But 18 to 25 seems to be its happiest range.

I've got a full Loft O2 quiver, and for some reason the 5.9 seems to be a better sail than the rest. Maybe it's just the optimal optimal size for my setup, or maybe it's because it's the one who's colour matches my board.

The 11 kg gap is no problem. I'm planing comfortably from 18 knots up and just like the feel of the smaller board under my feet. Better through the chop, more maneuverable.

Mast 430cm std top half 100% Carbon, bottom 30% brands unknown.
Boom North but now lighter thanks to grip coming off.
Harness lines left side Naish 22in, right side Prolimit 22in.
straps rear 2 F2, front 2 Naish.

Consistent 20kts -63-65kgs 6m Severne overdrive + 79ltre board - fanatic falcon.
If the chop was big maybe the 78ltre pocketwave .
If in flatter water and say 18-24kts - 6.4m Naish Bullit.

15-25 knots and 70kg.

i87 / 6.6 TR8 / 32 Volt

If the wind drops off a bit,will swap over to a i107 with a 36 CL fin. If wind is consistently above 20 knots will rig my 5.5m.

6.6m is the best sized sail. Unlike 7m its still a bit throw about and has much more top end.

71kg, 5.0 North Ice with either Tabou Rocket 95 ltd or Exocet Xwave 75 board, depending on solid 20kts or not and on mood.

92kg. Seabreeze at Cott = 5.5m Blade with a 110L NuEvo switching down to a 86L Evo if it fills in. Thinking about a new 94L wave board to replace the old 86L Evo.

Do any of you guys factor in "I may need to up-haul if the wind suddenly dies"? Can you? I was out on a 90L FSW + 6.1m in 18 knots. On my last run, the wind just completely died. Luckily I was almost ashore. I tried to up-haul just for the hell of it and couldn't (the board is about 58 cm wide with a lot of rocker). I'm 68 kg. So I ended up carrying my gear downwind - first time I have ever had to do that.

Wind drops out... Have to uphaul and drift to shore...Happens far too often on PPB. 20 litres of volume above your body weight on a FSW is absolutely doable.

I agree. I think we're taking way too long to get over this "small is better when the wind and chop picks up" mindset. I've recently acquired one of these new wide style free ride boards. I keep thinking to myself "What am I doing out here in these conditions on a 78 cm wide board?".

It's 2016, for bay or ocean blasting you can go way wider than you did in the '80s, you'll up the ante on all points of sail.

I would stay with Severne Overdrive 7.0 and Isonic 107 and 37cm fin!! Perfect combo

If it gets to choppy i would change down to Isonic 97L and 37cm fin, i can hold the 7.0 till 25 knots!!
