This damn mast selector chart has been confusing me for years now. I want to get a 6.0 ezzy sail and I don't have a 430 mast and can't afford $1000 + for a hookipa so shq has 50% unifiber rdm for a fraction of the price, I was ready to buy one and did one final check of the mast chart and found that 2023 version now says ezzysails require flex low masts not c/c. How can this be, in the 2021 version ezzy is green (constant curve) now it's yellow ( hard top). The confusion deepens.

The Yellow (Flex Low) isn't a hard top, it's a moderate flex-top with a slightly softer midsection. The FH isn't a hardtop, either, but a moderate flex top with a slightly firmer midsection and softer tip section. The Green CC bend has a stouter top than either red or yellow, and a softer bottom section. Unifier doesn't even make a real hard-top design.

I agree that the Ezzy is at the flex-top end of the CC spectrum, but with more bend low down than NP or North. However, the Ezzy sails, imo, are much happier with true CC masts than they are with anything at the true flex-top end of the spectrum. So, most Ezzy will be happier on NoLimitz or Sailworks or even old Fiberspar CC than they would be on NP (too soft at the tip) or old-style Naish or Gaastra (too stout top section)

So you think the green constant curve would be best? I still don't understand why unifiber would change from green to yellow when we know that ezzy sails have not changed their bend curve.

If you are on a budget, get the Ezzy Legacy XT 60% mast. Its a bargain. Its not just the bend curve you need to think about, its the stiffness. Most 430 masts are ICMS 21, like the Unifiber. I used to have one. According to the Ezzy website, the Ezzy Legacy 430 is ICMS 22, the Hookipa is 21.9. So they are stiffer. Its bit odd as the sail specs for Ezzy sails list IMCS 21 as the recommended mast.

I found the Unifber was fine on my old Ezzy Wave SE 5.8, just about ok on my Cheetah 6.0, but was too soft for the Lion 6.5m. It didnt have the depth of profile it should have. and bouncing over chop it got horizontal creases at the boom.
I recommend you find a Legacy XT 60% if you are on a budget.

The new format Unifiber chart is confusing, the older one with blocks was much better. I've rigged and used Ezzy sails on Simmer masts, 1 block more FT on the old chart, and Duotone which were 1 block more CC than Ezzy, and both worked ok. They were also IMCS 21, but the Unifiber 430 mast I had seemed softer than its spec. That could have been a one off duff mast though.

You should ask unifiber where they get the sail/mast specs from ! None of the information comes from Sailmakers. If the mast is wrong, everyone blames the sail.

You should ask unifiber where they get the sail/mast specs from ! None of the information comes from Sailmakers. If the mast is wrong, everyone blames the sail.

They would buy the masts in test them then resell you would think.

Both Charts are from Unifibre, first one is 2019 and earlier the second is their most recent.

No it doesn't say hard top for Ezzy masts. Yellow is Constant FL Curve

Constant FL Curve- This is similar to the old "flex top" mast, but with more flex low down (around the centre) of the mast. FL = Flex Low.

I'm even more confused now, so FL is low flew and now yellow, but the red is Flex top and Ezzy which were nearly a flex top and now yellow ....?????
