Here’s a trick question.
What’s a cheap 2nd hand 5.5ish sail,
that can rig on a 2010 400 100% rdm hot sails maui mast?
And is still worth using over my 5.0?

Any recommendations?

I think at least 5.8 and up to 6.1 would be more apropriate step up and a 430mast...
Maybe a 5.7 NS ICE for example.... it could rig on 400 mast...

i know you like your swat swoosh and it clearly treats you very well on the water, but i'd rig the mast on a swat first and see.

the hot sails masts are constant curve-flex top from what i can work out.

and severne are constant curve - hard top according to peterman.

may or may not be a problem.

edit* maybe a neil pryde firefly. again i'd rig it as your mast if my calcs above are good will be just a touch stiff but a fairly good match. maybe try the hot sails maui forum also.

Recently went the other way (added 5.0 between 5.4 and 4.7) and have been very pleased with the result. In my use, it made gybes easier in high winds and was also more comfortable in these winds.

Still use my 5.4 where I need more power than the 5.0 can give and it's still a light sail to have fun with on my 82 and 92 L boards. Perfect for the late afternoon seabreezes (we used to get).

As others have said, watch your mast sizing.
