Hey all,

Justed wanted to see if anyone has any preferences for what kind of helmet they use with their Go Pro.... I want to setup a front of the helmet mounted Cam, but not 100% on the helmet type.

Cheers in advance.

Kurt

PS - I do not intend to wear this on the train or tram..... or on hot days in the city walking the streets....

I use an old Gath helmet and I either have it side or top mounted.

Is the supplied sticky tape strong enough, or is everyone using screws as well?

The mounts supplied with the stick pads is strong enough. However its not a bad idea to secure the camera with some fishing tackle as pictured here:

I found the top mount to be no good as when you water start the camera is bumped out of position. The side mount is more out of the way.

Yeah, don't particularly like the telli tuby look on top :/

Thinking if it goes on the front better for water starts as mentioned....

But Gaths can't do front mounts... so trying to source a brand with a good front section on the helmet :/

Mounting the Go Pro on either side, close to the ear section of the helmet works fine on a Gath. Its just a matter of mounting the camera as far forward as possible, using the extensions to achieve this and sticking the pad as forward as possible.

If this isn't done then you end up having your eyebrows and nose down in the corner of the video. Kind of strange as neither move at all all video while everything thing else is.

I've got a launch helmet cam which is much smaller. About the size of a cigarette lighter.

I have mine front mounted on a gath using the curved base pad and a j mount which comes in one of the mount packs, I also use a bit of kite string through the vents to make sure it cannot be lost but have not needed it yet

You got a pic? So its not popping up too high for water starts? What's your youtube call sign?
