Are weed fins compatible with boards with tail cutouts or will the board be more prone to cavitation?
A mate is selling his almost new JP for this reason. I am just curious I imagine the WA sailors will have an opinion on this!

It's more likely a crap weed fin not the combination of the weed fin and tail cut outs. Heaps of people use weed fins where I sail and they are used on all sorts of boards from wave boards to dedicated speed boards with no issues.

No problems Mistral Nick, loads of JP Weed users in WA using slalom boards with cut outs. JP Weeds have a pretty good rep.

That's right, it's hard to find a really good weed fin. A lot of companies just get a slalom fin and cant it over to 45 degrees. Also you won't find a great deal of flex in a decent weed fin. Stiffer the better IMO
If you're looking at really good speed fins, have a look at the KA (lockwood Mcdougal) design. There are similarities there.
As for cutouts, I don't think they will affect the fins capacity to work well at all, in some cases it may actually compliment them.

The fin you can hit a cray pot line with without embedding yourself in the front of your board

I only use weed fins for racing and they are alright just a little
Less powerful and they increase your gybe radius
