Not knowing what to buy & picked this up from Sunshine Coast Sailboards for a trip south next year I am planning just want to know is this fin suitable for the weedy lake you lot have like LG & Lake Illawarra etc.
I have a JP SP50 to shove it in to so am after speed I can try the fin out & take it back if it feels no good.
Has anyone tried this fin out?

hey what a great idea, looks like you can slot different fins into the head Glynn the fin looks great, as long as theres no flex you can use that fin with a 5.5 to a 7.5 on illawarra, if you want an good setup for your sp50 with a 5/0 to 6.2 see whats around with a 47 to 50deg rake and 18cm, or send bushfire a PM
i'm working on some weedies at the moment and hopefully have them ready for LG IN February, just need too learn how to shape these suckers , after being told by Australia's best shaper 'i cant shape fins' if your down this way i should have something that will get you out of trouble good luck

keef, I will be going to LG early Feb the S Point then heading up the NSW coast & will be calling in to any places to speed or slalom sail.
I'm a old Syd boy so spent lots of time down south as far as Nowra surfing but didn't sail in those days so any advice where to sail would be welcome I have a list of spots to try on our trip.

My personal experiences with the "Weed Eliminators"

Use them to hunt for rocks in virgin territory, once you've found where all the rocks are, plug in a decent weedy and avoid those areas.

That said, the fins do improve directly in proportion to the amount of rocks you hit.

I've owned a couple, my last one was given to a mad scientist with a grinder

used that fin years ago - not the worst but not the best.

As a speed fin I am not sure but I have been using these for (attempted) freestyle and bump & jump at Safety Bay for years and very happy with them.

Glynn hopefully ill catch up with you at LG, there wont be any westerlies so you wont be sailing at illawarra, im not sure where you would sail after sandy point , my bet would be after sandy, head strait up to sanctuary point, just lock it into top gear the n/easter sucks in through point perp and picks up speed into sanctuary point , many a day the guys on botany are on there 6/5's and were on 4/5's
heres a video from last year and the first time anyone sailed nth of the ramp because of weed, my best speed is 36.78knts in a southerly, ADO from the pit crew has done 36+ in chop n/e, he can do it because he's mad, he'll be back and my guess is he'll be checking out my weedies

Hi Glynn,
I have the same fin in a 24 and also a 30 but in powerbox, they are ok for a good alround freeride fin and great for gybes but for speeds over 40 you are going to be really pushing it. they grip pretty good too.
I know in my early gps days I used both in and old early 90's torquay slalom and regularly ran 37's on LG.
still use both in my f2 stoke 117 but I don't ride this board for speed but for the LG weed they work great and go upwind surprisingly well also good for the stringy weed that floats around the bay here at beachport in summer.
I will be around LG in feb as i'm a local.

Okay, I feel really stupid for not knowing what 'LG' is.
