Hi,

I recently purchased the Ultrasport GPS NavRun 500 watch to record my windsurfing sessions and so far I am very happy with the data that it records. The watch came with its own software called GPS Master to analyze the data but I am trying to find a good website/app to import the data (usually in gpx format), that can provide more insight into my sessions, be accurate with the calculations it provides to me, be user-friendly and can be used on a smart phone (either as a mobile app or a mobile friendly website). So far I tried www.sportstracklive.com , www.mapmytracks.com/ and www.sports-tracker.com/ Each of the ones I tried have their pros and cons but was wondering what others have tried and which ones they prefer. Are there any such tracking websites/apps that are optimized for tracking windsurfing sessions?

If you are interested in measuring your performance you can join a team in GPSteamchallenge.com.au, most of the members post in KA72. The categories that are measured are 2sec. max speed, 5 x 10 sec averages, hour, n.mile, alpha (which is a 500m. run involving a jibe) and tot. kms in one day.
You can also buy your own software like gpsresults or realspeed, it's very cheap and gives a lot of options to measure also your own categories, check their websites.

I agree with Kato you can't use that watch for the GTC competition.

Another site to try is GPSvisualizer.com
It can display your tracks over a google earth map colour coded for speed. So you can see exactly where your fastest runs are.

But for an analyse of multiple factors KA72 is good.

For smart phone, gpslogit is a good app, it comes with a light version of GPSResults. And if your game to take it on the water can give spoken speed as you sail. It will also report on many categories

I use Strava, mainly because I also cycle a lot. There is a windsurf activity category - I wouldn't say it's really that optimised for windsurfing but that doesn't really bother me as I'm not analyzing my windsurf data like I do my ride data - it's just a diary for me really. Strava mobile app is very good. One fun thing you can do is set up segments, which are basically courses (eg. a figure of eight between two buoys); this sets up a league table that includes anyone elses times for that segment - good fun to compete with mates and not so critically reliant on absolute GPS accuracy.

There are a couple of linked apps to Strava in beta mode that analyse the effect of actual recorded wind conditions on a ride, which maybe kind of interesting for windsurf sessions.

I created a segment in the middle of our Lake but have never found it again lol, I do like the segment feature gives you an incentive when riding and would be good around a set of buoys when sailing.

Ha yes you do need a set of markers that don't move. On the Swan river we have some permanent buoys and boat channel markers so it works well. What's interesting is it's not just out-and-out speed that counts on the course-type segments - you have to get close to the markers on your gybes to shorten the course (within the margin allowed by Strava), balanced out against maintaining gybe speed. It really is like a virtual slalom race.

My Garmin 510 and I guess all other models have a virtual partner/rider where you compete against your best time live or KOM time

To be clear, I am not interested in participating in GPSTC. I am just curious to see what others have used and what they recommend. For me, I am looking for a website/app that will be used mostly as a journal with all my sessions but with an accurate analysis of the data that relate to windsurfing.

I've been testing ka72.com and noticed an issue. I am following up on their forum to see how to get it resolved as others reported it as well. Basically both "Top Speed" and "Distance" are not shown in the "My Tracks" section but they are shown in the "Overlay Link" section of that track. I am waiting to hear back from them.

I've sent GPX data to ka72 that a friend collected, your uploads don't have to be GPSTC related or even windsurfing related. KA72 measures appropriate parameters for different sports.

I suspect it's the quality of your data.
The cessium overlay is probably not as worried about absolute accuracy as KA72 itself is.
Dylan has included a lot of filters to make sure posts to the GPSTC don't include "dodgy data".
I tried to download you file from Ka72 to have a look at it, but for some reason the cesium overlay covers up most of the screen and I can't figure out how to get rid of it.

Hmm figured out how to download it, but I hit the download button, get a circling thingo, but that just disappears after a few seconds and nothing happens.

I downloaded the file, ran it through gps results, it doesn't have data every second and has quite few spikes.

@Espana : maybe check the interval recording setting on the watch.

The interval recording on the watch is set to 4 secs. Should I set it to 1 sec? I was under the impression that every 4 secs is good enough.

yes go for 1 sec it'll had precision and maybe solve a few problems with Dylan's software (ka72)

Yes had a look at the file and agree with Sean, a 1sec interval should work better.
