I am moving to Wagga Wagga soon and just wondering if anyone sails on the lake there?

Noone sails on the lake there. Lake Albert is used for water skiing. Closest place for a sail would be Canberra, about 2 hours away.

From the image it doesn't look to bad for windsurfing with a reasonable reach.

I've sailed there a few times(7.2 but a few 5.0 days), When it's windy enough to sail it thins the ski boats out. You'll be heading to the coast a fair bit, it's about 4.5 hours to Gerroa or Sanctuary point. Closer to Batemans bay but the sailings nowhere near as good there.

As Mobydisc has mentioned there is one GPSTC member at Wagga Wagga. He sails mixed fleet at the yacht club. He also makes the trip to Albury to sail with me on Lake Hume on a good forecast. PM me and i can put you in touch with him. There are seven sailors around the area, but rare to get more than two together at once.

So around Sanctuary Point what would be the best area for flatter water sailing? I'll be spending a fair bit of time in that area also. I'm not good enough for waves yet.

The boat ramp at John Williams Reserve on Sanctuary Point road. Works well in NE or S directions, Other spots around the lake work in a westerly. Flat water to mild bump and jump, It's a good spot for all levels but sometimes weed fins are required.

I windsurf regularly on Lake Albert, when the wind allows - the wind tends to thin out the ski boats. Not sure on exact numbers but there are a number of regulars. One sails religiously in the sailing club races but I've found it a struggle on the courses they set. Sunday afternoon is looking good for a sail at this stage.

Have been surfing for 10+ years, absolutely loved it.

Just started windsurfing on Lake Albert (because what else is there to do?), still very much a beginner but my last session I actually sailed across the lake and back.

I see a couple other windsurfers from time to time, all are really friendly. One actually gave me some good advice.

Always keen to meet other windsurfers and go out for a sail.

I sail at lake Albert. the one Mobydisc mentioned. its a good spot for a local run. I do travel around for a change. Sometimes I goto Santuary point, Albury and Mulwala. But if you interested Ill hookup with ya for a sail.

GPSTC Double demerits

Well I had great day on the lake today 25knots the quickest with the Gastra 7.0 and my drops board. I did take the GPS but lost all my files.. bummed out... So thats NE,W and SW works quite well on this lake

I sail there too. Feel free to message me if you are ever heading out. I usually launch from Eastlakes Drive or at Apex park.

I was driving around down that way last week and was wondering if anybody had ever sailed on the Irrigation channels up around Narrandera etc. They are quite wide and the wind always seemed to be blowing down there. Not quite Wagga, but would be interested to know if the channels are off-limits to sailing?

I have James, just near Yarrawonga. Those banks are pretty high though. They rarely open the flood gates enough to fill up.

I regularly sail in Wagga, but only above 15 knots. It is quite good in the right conditions. I used to race with the sailing club, however when the wind dropped and it was 40 degrees it was a tough slog pumping back home, plus I was racing against Paper Tigers! Every now and then I still travel and race my longboard, mainly in Lake Illawarra and I also make the trip to Merimbula in November for the Classic. This is a great weekend!

I took up SUPing due to the weeks when there was no wind. This has saved my sanity- but you need to get on the water before the power boats 6-7am. I am not on FBook, however there is a Wagga Windsurfers group. A social get together is looking to be organised for the first Sunday in September.

If you go back down the Sturt hwy. (from Wagga) onto the Hume hwy. and turn right at Gundagai or directly onto the Snowy Hwy , it's around 150 Km(total) to Talbingo dam or Burrinjuck dam.

You need to look up Nat Parks .gov.au to see what is allowed where on the dams.

The Wagga windsurfing group has set the date of Saturday 19th September at 1:00pm for its 2015 season opener at Lake Albert. It will also be a gear swap for anyone that has some surplus gear for sale or wants to give it away.

We'll be meeting up at Apex Park. Anyone from Albury, Griffith, Tumut, Canberra etc is welcome to come have a sail with us. Sydney and Melbourne sailors you're more than welcome too...it's only a 4.5 hr drive.

Burrinjuck has obstacles just under the water, is cold, choppy and massively gusty. You'd have to be seriously desperate.
