Just noticed this crease in the deck of my W49!
Not sure what to do about it. Its not cracked through but feels a little soft when I put pressure on it. If It was an older board I'd sort it out with fibreglass and a bit of over kill but as this is a new board for me I'd like to keep it nice. There is also another on the opposite side of the deck in roughly the same place which is not so bad.

Anyone have any advice?

Don't sail it, it is a serious fracture.
Under the glass will be cracked foam, you just can't see it. I think major surgery unfortunately

Not hard to fix and make it strong - but it will not be pretty as to duplicate the biaxial glass/black resin / rubbed back finish will be very hard.

Not sure how much repair work you've done. If you can get hold of a bit of biax carbon you should be able to get it to look pretty good.
Once you put the final layer of carbon on, all lined up with the old stuff. Mix up some opoxy with a bit of talc in it to thicken it up a bit. Then put white and black pigment paste to match the colour. Squeegee this over the repair and then sand it in to match.
I've done a few like this and it came up pretty good.

Yeah Michael its 2012 (I'm pretty sure) I've got the right man on job. MT picked it up today, just hope its ready for the next big westerly.

So what was his assessment, being on both sides, does it automatically mean a fabrication defect ?
Or was it the way it was stored ?

Its compression damage from foot traffic mostly gybing. Very common, and readily repairable - some people are more heavy footed than others is all

I guess it's foot traffic. The board is stored and transported safely and never been crushed or squashed. I also know the sailor it bought the board from, who is very experienced and looks after his equipment. It's just dissapointing that it's failed after only a handful of sessions. Is it possible that modern boards are made so light that they don't last. Which is maybe not such a big deal if your a sponsored rider chasing world records (I wish) but not great for joe blow chasing a PB :( when the repairs are completed I'll post an update with what has been done. It will be stronger than ever :)

I've had it out 4 or 5 times since I bought it, but it would have been used quite a few times last winter by the pervious owner. Still it didn't have a mark on it when I bought it.
