Booked tickets a few months back to do 3 weeks in Vietnam / Cambodia in Xmas break.
Was thinking about trying to get 2-3 days in sailing, It must of slipped from my mouth the other night and the bride replied that it would be a good idea
wonders will never cease!
Anyone had any experience / advice to give on where to go - we have 2 kids aged 8 / 6 who are beach / sup / windsurf friendly.
Had a look at a few websites - but prefer feedback from users
Thanks in advance
Will be in Hanoi and region in late September. Anyone with knowledge of sailing spots in the north would be appreciated too. We are going to do Ha Long bay but we are winging it for the rest of trip. We won't be going too far south so Ne Mui [spelling] will probably be off our radar.
Sorry to hijack your thread too Ben.![]()
Here are some threads I've just found

PS - leaving the 4 kids at home as it's my present to wife for her 40th.![]()
I've heard "Jibes" Full moon Beach resort in Mui Ne is pretty good. Just north of Saigon/Hochiminh City.
Thanks Richie - think Jibes is where we will end up
Sausage - great present - for the brides 40th we did a huge party - could have had a two weeks overseas for the same cost - still have the memories though of our performer friend "Dangerboy" getting my wife the hammer a 4 inch nail up his nose in front of 70 guests squealing and squirming ![]()

Thanks for the links
Here are a couple of pics of some windsurfers in Nha Trang ![]()
They also had some kite gear in the beach hut.
Also heard of guys Kiting at Hoi An
But Either way I think you would have to be there at the absolute best time of the wind season to pickup anything over 15knts
We rode though a desert area north of Mui Ne that I reckon would generate some good seabreezes in the right season.
By far the best thing we done while there in april was a 5 day easyrider trip up into the hills and back streets on the back of motor bikes, got see a much better part of Vietnam and had personal guides that speak english ![]()
Went there in May last year.
Mui Ne is the place to go. Basically just open bay sailing with some heavy shore dump from footage I found prior to going. It was only about ten knots at best so I hired a kite and it was pretty boring.
There are a number of hire places along the beach in front of the resorts. Good signage in the main road.
I think our summer is there peak wind season (not sure) but hopefully you'll get something.
Nha Trang had kite hire but cant remember seeing any sailboard gear.
Mui Ne the pick of spots given the draw onshore from the desert lanscape behind it.
Good luck. Avoid the bbq lizard at Mui Ne - eewwwww
Hi Ben (&sausage),
Vietnam = Friggin awesome :)
I went last year and discovered a new kite\windsurf\sup school + hire in Hoi An at Ang Bang Beach. So Sausage this is prob your best bet if you cant get to Mui Ne or Nha Trang. Mui Ne would be first pref though.http://www.vietnam-kiteboarding.com/index.aspx?content=windsurf&lang=en

I think the conditions in Hoi An are more fluky but you can always go out on a sup or just enjoy the magnificent town that is Hoi An :) I would prob talk to the guys that run it.
Sausage - if you wingin it I would highly recommend Sapa (overnight train from Hanoi) it is stunning!!! Dalat is alos a cool place with lots of action, adventure like trekking and waterfalls etc. Not sure of weather that time of year, I went July but both Sapa and Dalat were a bit cooler which provided welcome relief from humidity.
Also Sausage, most Halong bay junks and itineries dont quite match up to what on offer and you prob find if you booked from here the price is tripple. We had to insist our guys took us to a place so we could jump off and swim, which they obliged but make sure you are clear what you are getting. Also very little shade on deck and no junk had its sails up :(
If either of you want more info on travelling in Vietnam, please feel free to contact me I covered Sapa\Hanoi\Halong Bay\Hoi An\Dalat\HCMC.
Jodi :)
SAPA - View from bed at hotel (Cat Cat View)
$30-40?
HOI AN
I sailed at Mue Nei in Feb 2011 just before the PWA did there event there. Saw Cyril Moussilmani training, he would sail out come back in and cut bits of batten, sand them and go back out. He did this for and hour and half while I relaxed and drank big bottles of beer after my sailing. My advice would be take you own harness and some lines if you plan to do a few or more days sailing. The gear is well used but the water is warm, the food is great, the beer's cheap and the locals friendly.
Jodi,
Thanks for the great tips and photos. Will put Sapa on our itinerary and hopefully Hoi An.
Cheers,
Sausage
