Today I went to rig my new 2025 NP V8 sail for the first time and was snookered by a pin on the tack pulley between the roller and the strap. I only use Duotone Power XT mast extensions nowadays because they are fantastic. Hence the addition of that pin doesn't allow enough room to thread the loop of rope over the top of the rollers. Not sure when this pin was added to NP sails but my 2021 V8's don't have it. Easy fix, removed the pin with a 1.5mm Allen key. Just didn't have one of them with me at the beach which was a p.i.t.a.

The exact same thing with me on a new NP race sail. I was just about to say the pin comes out. Then I finished reading. I suppose it's there so that the rope doesn't jump rollers when normal threading. Long live Power EXTs.

I had that problem. Now I thread it through manually rather than loop it over.

Other brands like Severne used to have the exact same thing on their pulleys for a few years. I guess it prevents lines from crossing when rigging. Now most people have moved to loop and go extensions, these are redundant. Interesting that NP still use these but at least you can easily remove it. Severne have moved to a system that only allows loop and go extensions.

For the Goya Fringe and Sailworks sails I have, there is simply no enough room and I don't want to thread the rope so I used a round file to notch the center pulley. Super simple and makes it very easy to go around the tight spot because you put the loop in the notch and then twist the center pulley to go around.

Any wear on the rope where the notch contacts it?

None. I sanded them well with 120 grit and also remember the rope is not being loaded against those notches at all. There is very little pressure to make the rope go through the tight space. I did that around 5 years ago and am still using the same rope in both of my ratchets.
