What is best type of extension/base system in durability/reliability?

Is M-base more reliability then U-base,can euro pin easier selfdisconect from extension then M-base?
And does M-base lifetime is better then U-base?

No I just don't need them. I have others and these are surplus to my needs. I use mainly US cup style but I think Europin is better. It is better because you can unrig and re-rig on the water, or on the course if you have to. US Cup style is hard to decouple on the water infact highly difficult, impossible even. This is why race boards like the Mistral One Design have the Europin. If you don't want them someone else may. Thanks

Had the old UXT, which looked more premium than the current model (it looked like the MXT - black, no plastic parts, formuline rope).
That thing gave me a lot of grief. Any bit of sand would stop it from disconnecting. Replaced it with an MXT. Don't have to worry about sand, very foolproof. The button can be a bit hard to press and you have to be careful not to get your finger tip jammed by the button. The downside is that it's only compatible with MXT bases and supposedly Europin is stronger.

Have a Power XT 2.0 now. Rope started slipping after less than a month, so you could not downhaul properly. The shop replaced it. The new one is alright, although after 6 months releasing downhaul via the lever only works for a few clicks now. Also loop and go does not work for 2017 Severene wave sails because the gap is too small between the pulleys and the strap. So the rope must be threaded. (Ironically Severne increased this gap in 2019 sails to make them "Cyclops ready" - allows their own version of loop and go.)

I have a Shox upgrade kit installed as well. Haven't sailed without it for a while, so dunno if it makes a difference. Probably saves my boards in those flat landings, haha.

The North i-base is great - I just leave them on my boards. Although I'm weary of the tendon. Chinook and Streamlined have similar bases but their tendons have more safety rope.

You think than pin connect is stronger than plastic button connection?

I have euro base(severne extension) and it is very hard to disconect sail form board in water,even everything is nice and clean,no sand..because if you push button too much ,pin is in lock position again,you must push button only in one position to release pin inside extension..

Eu being stronger is just something I heard. "Hard to disconnect" maybe by design. The MXT is not easy to disconnect when the angle is not right. The problem I had with the UXT is that it just got completely stuck. Note that the new model UXT is very different to the old one and looks like NP's budget extension - no formuline rope, no carbon version.

euro pin stuck only if sand is inside extension.

Why MXT is hard to disconect,what happends with button when angle is not good?

Neilpryde invent MXT only because of easy operation and to avoid problem with sand ,this supposed to be his first purpose.

You're over thinking it.
Buy one.

Been using the mxt for about 9 years on the wave gear and never broken one. Broke one of my rdm extensions after 8 years use. I replace the bases every couple of years just encase.

Borken mxt rdm was alloy or carbon?

Did you have any problems/demages with M-base ?

Alloy mxt extension. Broke at 16 cm but at 8 years old you cant complain about that. Never had a problem with the plastic button but as i say, i replace my bases every couple of years just to be safe.

+1 for NP MXT Base. Has performed faultlessly since purchased 2.5 years ago. Nothing beats solid metal when it comes sustaining the sorts of downhaul loads we put on these things, while being unaffected by UV degradation, embrittlement of plastics etc.

DuoTone Power XT 2.0 is without question the best extension on the market. The ability to adjust downhaul precisely in any conditions can't be beaten.

Never yet needed to adjust downhaul on the water in 25yrs sailing. Do it on the beach it takes 60sec extra to disconnect board and downhaul a smidge then hit the water again, and we all have a rest break now and then anyway?

I go with simple and strong that still works when full of sand and crap, not ratchets and all sorts of moving bits. I honestly don't see the need to be able to change 5mm of downhaul on the water. Ratchetty things are for people with bad backs or something.

Severne grenade, the new extra thick ally one. Can't break it, cheaper than a ratchetty thing.

What is purpose of this rubber O-ring in this position,I know o-ring keep lock ring together,but mast will crash o-ring when downhaul ? Others extensions dont have it between mast-bottom and extension lock ring..


Do I have to put it between mast and lock ring or I can remove this O-ring?

Some spots can be so hard to launch from that you don't want to do it more than once per session.
