Hey all,
I've been offered a learner board, a Tyronsea 295. Does anyone have any specifications for these boards? Approx. Volume? Length? Width?
Also has anyone sailed or learnt on one if these? What are they like?

Its not a learners board. They are an old style slalom board. Long and skinny. It would not be an easy board to learn windsurfing on.

It's like learning to play tennis with a wooden racquet, once you can handle it, it will make anything else soooo good and easy

I had the opportunity to learn on one. After 2 sessions I jumped on a mate's starboard GO... the next day I took the tyronsea back to its owner and called a windsurf shop to order a new board and rig.

If it is free, you have zero $$$, are very athletic and committed, and not over about 85kg - then you could learn on one.

Not ideal though, if you don't fit most criteria above then look for something wide.

I had one in the 90's but it was my 3rd board..Don't want to turn you off one..here I am having fun in 1986.. I did enjoy it..( the board not the catapult).. Hee hee I notice I'm looking where I am going.. the golden rule in most sports.

I had one as my first board and learnt on one way back, the early ones with the stripes where 120 litres and the later ones with the coloured patterns where 140 litres, don't use a big fin as the finboxes are way weak. mostly sailed a 6 metre on it, certainly is doable especially if on a budget.

They were what we used at school to learn on in our aquatics lessons. They were good fun at the time as they were all we had. Honestly though id hate to get back on one now. But if the price is right (free) than go for it. Any board is better than no board.

^^ are u sure? The Tyronsea 330 was the normal windsurf school board as it had a centreboard.

Inflicting a 295 upon learners is banned under some rule surely

I learnt to sail on a windsurfer one design in the 80's, then had a Tyronsea 370 for a short period, then a 295 which I didn't master before doing the family thing for 20 years before I was able to get back into the sport. I bought a Starboard Go to get back into it and I can say forget the old Tyronsea, get yourself a SB Go to learn on and you won't look back. The 295 is not suited to learning on, modern sails are not designed for old boards like a 295 Tyronsea And you need to be using a fairly new sail to give yourself the best chance of progressing Quickly. Just my 2 cents worth!

I've got a 170 litre starboard go with a full fig (4.7m ezzy wave sail). About ten years old. I'm going to sell it at the start of summer. Cn anyone tell me what it's worth?

Perfect combo to learn on IMO, but Moose make sure you budget for a bigger sail to use with the Go once you get the basics so you get it planing, then you'll be hooked! IMO the beauty of the SB Go to learn on is they are wide and stable and you don't need a centreboard to keep them upwind, and once you can get them planing they are really lots of fun to sail!

Seriously though - a few hundred at least but ANY beginner should jump at this.

You might be right there they did have center board. Was over twenty years ago.
