Just bought a nice 2nd hand Tushingham X15 7.6. I have an old Powerex 460 that I rigged it on today. I knew this might not work, but I thought I would give it a go. Well it rigged up pretty ugly, it seemed like the mast didn't want to bend enough to make room for the cams. I had to put most of the downhaul on before i could get them to stay put. Got it all together eventually, down hauled until the top battens were floppy, however the leech didn't really fall away as much as I would like. Checking again after my sail, I think I under downhauled by 3-4cm. Sailing it didn't feel good, it felt heavy and backhanded.

So the obvious solution is to get the right mast (Tushy or NP), however I am wondering if anyone has got a Powerex to work with an X15? ( perhaps I did a ****e job with the rigging)

I've been using tushingham sails for many years now and before they started to make tushy masts, I used powerex masts and they were great. I don't know if the designers have changed their sails to suit different bend curves, but I don't think they would be that different. I think the main problem for you sounds like it is the way you are rigging your sail. The X15, and all the new tushingham cambered sails require a different rigging method. You should go to tushingham.com and have a look at the rigging videos for your sail. When it is set right I think you will be happy with your new sail.
If you want some profesionaladvice, then stop in to 2nd wind and have a chat to Jez or Paul. They will be able to sort you out.

Thanks Dave, good idea to check the rigging video. I have a 2008 5.8m X15 which sets nice on a X6, so I guess I was hoping for a similar experience. The rigging arrangement has changed and is now more like my Koncept, so I followed that approach. - i'll check the vid out

Hi Special if the 7.6 you picked up was from wsp it's my old one if you pick up a pryde x6 460 or tushie it will twist off beautifully and remain very balanced when sailing. It's a really good sail but quite mast bend curve specific (flex top) to achieve nice balance on the water. Hope this helps
