Hi so I used to windsurf a few years ago and I really miss doing it. I was going to get a membership for a year at the sailing center closest to me but it cost 400$. I figured that for around that price or a little but more I might as well buy my own set up and be able to do it all myself. I've found a few options on Facebook marketplace but I'm just honestly so lost at what board and sail I need to get even after doing some research. I'm about 125 lbs or 56kg and the average wind speed in my area is like 10ish mph I would say depending on the day obviously. I know there are different types of boards and I'm guessing the size also depends on the board type so any advice would be very much appreciated as I'm just looking at the random used boards available for sale right now

What ability level were you at is more important.
For a lot of people 10 mph winds is very light and usually they would be using a large sail and a large board.

Depending on your ability and this is just a guess really I'd say get a board of around 125 litres, a mast and boom and a couple of sails around 6.5m and a 5m, this would cover you for lighter winds and then if theres a bit more wind or you can't cope with the larger sail then you could use the smaller one. Don't buy a slalom board, get a free move or free ride board, get sails without Cams.

I would consider windfoiling in those light winds.

From $300 to $2000 depending in your budget lots of options.

At around 55kg my son was using a 110lt freestyle board and 3.8m-4.4m sail for light winds

On a 4.8m sail he planed in 8 knots on that board.
At your weight, slalom boards have too much rail volume. freestyle or freestyle wave is prob better.

12-20 knots is 85lt freestyle wave.
25 and up 65lt wave board.

If you are light but tall you can go size bigger with sails.

I'm about 55kg. If the wind is really that light, a 6m sail and a 120l board should get you going. As mentioned before and depending on your skill level, a freeride board would possibly be best. If you consider yourself advanced you could also go with a freestyle setup. Get something reasonably modern (not older than 10 years) and you will have heaps of fun!
