If you have to go with one of those things I would suggest the Jez's Knob is a better solution. Its bendy and compliant so it absorbs shock loads.
Alternatively you can slip a pad around your mast below the boom.
Received wisdom has it that a nose pad is the best solution.

I heard about Jez's Knob having basically the same advantages and disadvantages of the Deviator, in short the danger of of ripping off the mast track.
I agree with you, a nose pad would be the best solution. Somebody suggested a pool noodle as a nose protector.
It is not a bad idea : cheap and effective,( never mind the " cheap" look on my brand new Tabou Rocket STD...). I'd would hate though, to have the board look even cheaper by using packing tape to affix the noodle, as somebody suggested.
I am thinking of a neater job, by using carpet double face tape or ordinary bath-tub silicon , but I'd like to make sure that eventually I can safely remove the silicon adhesive or the tape.
Can you or anybody suggest, from their own experience, a solvent for this purpose?
A problem I might have, though, with the pool noodle is that its surface is cylindrical and it would stick badly to the flat surface of the board , unless I cut the noodle off length-wise to obtain a flat surface on one side, which may not be that easy, because I suspect the material frays easily when being cut with a hand saw.
Any suggestions or comments on the pool noodle questions ?
Thank you
