would it be more suitable for light wind sailboarding in waves ?

yep, you can beat the kites out

i've got a 9'8"sup i use in the surf. it's a lot of fun. the waves are always good when the wind is light. you only need a small sail and a light cross off wind.

I added a mast track to a BIC SUP, I enjoyed it a lot, I got a lot of additional time on the water. I would have said it was ok.
i now have a AHD Sea Lion, twin, it's the bomb. Much better.
does the Fanatic already have a hole or track installed ? More suitable than what?

Hey normster, 105 litres isn't much volume for a windSUP. Most windSUPs are up in the high 100's for volume. Does it already have a mast base attachment, or are you considering putting one on it?

both fanatic and jp have mast inserts in their smaller wave sups. not sure about starboard but would think they do also.

With enough wind just about anything will plane. What are you aiming for here normster? Most of us drag out our windSUPs when there's next to no wind and aren't too interested in making them plane.

My friends Quatro has the bolt hole, no problems. I'm not keen cause it restricts any movement, but then...
I think it will plane.
The rocker is but one aspect of the boards character, bottom shape, fins, planing flat, nose/tail rocker...on on..

if its a general question of if it will plane , fine, if planing is a requirement under a lot of conditions it's probably the wrong board. I find it interesting.

Does a wave board with full surf rocker plane? Has for 45 years!

I have a Starboard 10'5" 30" wide SUP. Drive I think was the model with built in mast foot screw hole. Have sup sailed a couple of times, once at the Bombie in Exmouth and Corro's in Gero. The Bombie session was one of the most fun sessions I have had on the water ever. Yes it's quite large but you just need to drive it harder. Turns well with the right amount of knee bend and body shift. Can be thrown around surprisingly well. Yes I have had it on the plane with a 5.7m in about 15-16 knots. It makes setting to the take off zone easy and the best part is, if you're timing is off, just sheet out and wait for the wave without sinking ! Bloody brilliant, then a couple of pumps and you're on. And dead set easy to water start and gybe with light wind because of the volume.

Seriously give it a go. Adds a whole new dimension to light wind days where there are some smaller waves but not enough wind to wave sail.

I have an 11'6 Bic windSUP and love it, but it's more about the glide than the plane even though it will plane in enough wind.

My Starboard 8'10" X 32" Widepoint from a few years ago is heaps of fun for superlightwind wave sailing with around 6m and using front footstraps - turns mush into magic! Hotshots can wobble out on 80litres in no wind, I need some float! Not about planing, just catching waves when there is enough wind to make sail a better option than paddle

Actually it's the screw in attachment that has a lot of stress on it, not the bolt, it doesn't really care what it's screwed into. Those mast inserts don't have near the same strength as a mast track would have, so when using one, be careful with anything radical, they aren't designed for that, those things can fail, easy sailing only.

When I purchased my Sealion(8'3" 135L) I was also shopping for a JP since they all have insert. After a lot of question on different forum, they were saying to go with a sup with a mast track, if you use your sup with a sail a lot, it will eventually break...maybe it is way better now.

However, I purchased a sealion and yes you can get on a plan, however I can get on a plain quicker with my 92 freestyle than my sealion.

The sealion is a bomb in waves as a sup and as a wind sup!! I did some wicked drop in super steep wave with it,it's an awsome board! I would use it as a windsup and if it's brea the insert replace it with a mast track, but go for it it's a lot of fun in 10 knts and waves!!
