Spring has left the building and the Summer season of wind and waves is on for 2017 in the Gorge. Should be a great year. Lovely 75F weather and mellow 20 knot breeze today.
Well, well, well, so Roo can actually sail! He can back up his talk! Do you gybe with your front foot in the strap? What board is it. JP slalom? And I love the sail, well trimmed, quite low boom, not unlike that Dutch speedster. Do you have a GPS?
Yes. Custom replica of my old Naish SP95 that delaminated, had the original designer Richard Greene build it for me. Yes I have a GPS, sail every day with it. Fastest speed I've done in the Gorge is around 50mph, today was a slow day at 41mph! http://www.gps-speedsailing.com

What size is the sail and what's in/in your ear? Music

Sail size is 6.4 EVO8 that I modified with RDM cams. As I'm an old phart I need my hearing aids! Actually they are bluetooth earphones linked to an Android phone. GPSLogit reads out the speed every second to me so I can trim and adjust for speed. I also have a sound mix of Aussie tunes from the 70s and 80s playing...Chisel, Midnight Oil, Dragon, Skyhooks etc.
Sparky said.. Do you have pics of any chop hops? you're from Aus originally?
I can't chop hop...scared of heights! Yes ex-pat Aussie, grew up near Geelong and left in the mid 1980's. Kept a house on the beach in Rockingham until 10 years ago and did 6 months here in the Gorge and six months in OZ for a while.
sailquik said.. Very nice photos Roo. Water looks reasonably flat too. How is the Gorge speed strip this year?
With the record snows this winter the river is running very high with the melt off. Six feet above normal so the sandbar is covered for now. Will be interesting if it changes shape once it does reappear. Lots of current so huge waves in the channel and lots of cross chop. Reasonably flat by Gorge standards.

G'day Larko, finally warming up here after a chilly winter. We had snow on the ground for 90 days, unheard of in this neck of the woods. May head back once my son finishes his engineering degree. Looking at hitting Green Island, Lake Illawarra, Lake Macquarie and Lake George if I do. Good to hear from you again.
MartinF2 said.. Sensational pics Kean. Well done and congrats on the Alpha PB.
Thanks Martin, was a pretty sweet one. With the river so high and lots of current it's set up a back eddy where a stream comes in and created amazingly flat water for jibing.
Been a good week in the Gorge, 5 sailable days out of 7. Never used bigger than 6.4 race sail, blown out on 5.6 race sail on Tuesday and sweet 5.6 session today. Normal windsurfers have been out on 3.2 to 3.7 on the windy days. Ah summer in da Hood, sweet!

I'd add Shark Bay wa to that wish list. Still playing with fast cars??
BSN101 said.. Roo, are there rental kits there? Might be a good road trip for the winter
Big Winds has a huge rental selection, bigwinds.com/ Typically you wont need big gear but you can go snow skiing when the wind doesn't blow! there's a warm welcome and cold beer for anyone that comes by, shouldn't be too hard to find me on the water.

Forgot all about Shark Bay, looks like heaven from the reports you and Daffy posted last year. Yeah still addicted to speed, added a few tweaks to one of the Astons over the winter to make it faster and handle better...can't help myself. www.v8vantage.com/Project%20adVantage.html Haven't stripped the interior yet!
