hello. Who tested different fins and can what fast and stable I need a fin 46-48 cm for slalom board. Very praise Zfins, sonntag. There are also cfins, MFC, BlackProject Fins , maui, Select, Hurricanefins, Winheller. which one to choose ? Is there a difference between carbon and g10?

I have Chopper and Paffi fins for SL large, medium and small (PD SL AI 130, 110 and PD Custom 95) and we compared them with Hurricane (my friend uses them).

-Chopper is the best compromise for me with the highest speed. A lot of lift. Some pilots report a bit more difficult control on the last 1% (I don't think so)
-Hurricane are minimal slower than Chopper, but they make higher courses to the wind possible. Maybe better control on the limit.
-Pfaffi: i need 2 cm more length compared to Chopper (less lift with Pfaffi), very good speed and control. Best for low wind conditions.

Softness: Chopper makes only one stiffness grade, Hurricane several and I have Pfaffi personally in soft 2- up and soft 3- (very soft :-)

anyway - I make all that points only for my specific boards and sails combinations (Avanti Machine M7 and Tempest), as SL-boards and sails need different amounts of lift.

I forgot to write: there are still wunderful G10 fins on the market (e.g. Talon). I personally don't use G10 anymore due to different reasons (not very responsive, sun reactions and weight). I think in small sizes up to 36 cm (maybe 38 cm) - they can be very good alternatives to Carbon and Sandwich-fins.
I personally don't know any good Slalomsurfer, who uses longer G10 fins for larger Sl-boards anymore (>40 cm) and I havn't seen these longer G10 fins on our GPS rankings anymore.

P.s. Winheller is now making his fins only for friends - not available on a large scale anymore. C-Fins is (sometimes) very difficult to contact - their was a serious issue last saison with breaking bases (but a perfect and gentle managment by Richard, C-Fins, in the case of problems).

Err, apart from Hurricane and Winheller, the rest of those brands mentioned in the original post crop up all the time on Seabreeze classifieds, so people here can get availability.

I have no experience with commercial fins. But if I did want to buy one, I'd go to a Chris Lockwood, Tribal

One email to any of these fin supplier and you can get them anywhere... As mentioned above most have been used here

I have been involved in windsurfing for 40 years and although I have heard of some of these fins, many are almost never seen here, internest orders or not, at least amon the many sailors I sail with all over the country. But if you have seen them, go ahead and knock yourself out reviewing them.

If people are selling these fins on this website, and one would assume have used said fins, how is not not perfectly reasonable for a fellow sailor from overseas or otherwise, to therefore ask anybody on seebreeze if they have any experience of such fins?

Antonmik, I noticed you also posted this question on a french site too. To be honest, I believe that there are no bad fins out there, and all modern slalom fins work very well for regular recreational sailors. They just all feel slightly different from each other so the trick is to find which is suited to your sailing style.

for the size you want, 46-48cm, carbon is usually the way to go.

I've been around for a bit and only seen 2 of these brands used in Oz.
Z fin have a great rap in speed sailing. MFC as free ride fins are a budget buy.
Id recommend a carbon Tribal for the size your looking at. BUT ask 20 people and you'll get 20 different choices.

I got some second hand Sonntag and loved them, but I am just an average sailor and would not be able to provide you with great speeds or comparison with others. Only thing I noticed is that carbon fins are generally better, give you more feedback and less spin out.

46-48 Speed Slalom fins?? What I would call a speed fins are all under 30cm.

What board sail combo for these fins? Wind & water state.

I love my Tribal Carbon & G10 fins. Shopping for more Carbon SL2s.

I'm too fat for my 26 CLSL2. God I wanna use it!!!!

not had luck with my SL30 either. Getting there tho.
Winter winds required.
my tribal SL52 custom is great up to 23 knot winds on the US. I've not used the Sontag 47 yet but it looks good too.
I think that the good carbon fins will also have a better wind range so extra cost of carbon translates to fewer fins required. For me 2-3 fins per board with some overlapping. Fewer fins but more fin bolts!!!
