Saw a thread praising Sknners (socks -like things) as booties. Any updates on opinions? In Particular I was concerned your foot would slide/roll inside the sock which I sometimes have trouble with in round toe vs split toe boots. Tried to respond to previous thread but it said "too old to be resurrected". Crazy the socks are same price as a pair of warm weather booties, but tempted to try them. Also, do they protect against zebra mussel / oyster shells, etc well?

I like the ones from Atan, it is quite like a sock that has been dipped into rubber and this gives a much better feeling of the board, even in their winter shoes.

I had then, lasted and worked better than I thought. Main downside is they would fill up with sand

Most serious injury I ever had was the result of bootie/socks (same as Ben Profit check his videos on it a liz franc injury, twisted Foot torn up ligaments) from getting caught up in straps full of water buggered me up for months. I'll never wear booties again, be warned.

The worst injury I ever had was when I sailed without any shoes, I had to get a few stitches in my foot and could not sail for quite a while that summer....

Regular booties have to much going on with a thick rubber sole and that can get stuck in the footstrap. The "sock" type is much smoother and also provides a better feeling of the board. They are likely less resistant to cuts, I guess, but I have never had cuts deep enough to hurt my foot while wearing them.

Cant sail here without booties, between the mussel and oyster shells you would be cut to shreads by the time you've walked out far enough to launch.
I've had to drive a couple of guys who have ignored locals advice to wear bottles to hospital to get their feet sown back together, strangely the skinners knitted sole stood up to the cuts better than some rubber soled boots I've had

I've worn Atan boots for many seasons and have really liked the naked feel you get with them. I couldn't buy them during the covid transport problems so I've been using Ion boots for last 6 months. They are expensive but brilliant.
