Hi all,

I have a quiver of no-cam freerace sail and matching 80% carbon masts.

Considering buying a second hand race sail (same brand) just for fun. But will a cambered race sail work at all with 80% carbon mast?

SDM or RDM? Cams will need to match. Local sailer here uses RDM on his SCR. And he's fast as hell.

Well, I was thinking SDM but I do have a RDM as well. I should also have mentioned that I have a carbon boom...

80% should work, but will have a slower flex response. This means it won't have the more instant power response in a gust that a 100% has. It should still be a big speed and power improvement over your VMax in powered up conditions. What's more important is that it has the right mast bend or you're going to have problems with cam rotation

It'll work just fine provided the bend curves match.

the only differences to note with carbon content are weight and reflex response. A mate of mine uses the lowest carbon content masts in the range and he flogs a great number of people on stiffer masts down a slalom course. The only time it hurts him is pumping onto the plane after a gybe (because his mast is a noodle) the rest of the time, not at all.

Thanks, the VMax sails are great, Apparently the SX8 and SX10 masts have the same mast profile. I won't do any racing, just try to improve my speeds...
