Took my new board (JP FSW 93L pro edition) out in the surf zone today with my 6m Ezzy, and had a wow of a time! Thought it was going to be difficult, going to a shortboard from a longboard. It was sooooo easy getting out through the breakers, and AWESOME waveriding! Amazing what you can do when there is a little wind!! STOKED+++

Good one Gidget. That FSW will make wave riding a bit faster for you. Where did you get out today?

I missed today but sailed off Plommer last weekend - was fun. Looks good for tomorrow! Hope you get out on the FSW again

I was out at Crowdy. Kiddie steps at this time, but hope to build into epic given twelve months and a bit of wind.
What's Plommer like to sail? Northside? I have often wondered about going there - not as far to go as Trial Bay.

I've got 5 of my 13 year old daughter's friends overnight tonight for her birthday and son No.3 needs to go over for footy rego on Sunday....if I'm lucky I'll escape early arvo somewhere...name the place someone! Need to re-enter the surf again but I need someone there to hold my hand. Woose? Sh!t ya, it's only been 20 years but I'm itchin' real bad! Hope the surf is small.

Man oh man, you are so brave it freaks me. What are you worried about a little thing like the surf after your party experience
Waves might be a little bigger than today. Northside Crowdy was very gentle and safe today, DH had a lot of sandbanks when I was there a few days ago which made it a bit frustrating. With a bit of luck the wind might be a little sideshore.

Wouldn't KB be a a bit protected in the NE? I found having surfed MR, it had a lot of rocks/channels/rips. I would be a bit challenged with the new board (okay with the old), unless you meant southside of MR?

There's Rainbow Beach at Bonny's too!

MR is where I saw my first awesome windsurfing, which sold me onto the sport!

South of MR is good and works well, Rainbow would be good too but don't know how the waves work there. Wind is NE and light at the moment but looks promising. High tide peaks late this arvo.

Still waiting for the kids to be picked up, 1 gone 4 to go.

Damn that storm - might still come in late though!

Gidget: We were camping at Plommer and i happened to have my gear otherwise it wasnt really a spot I would normally sail. It is like Crowdy Bay in a NE (and SWR for that matter), pretty well dead on shore. Fast runs through the shorebreak whilst tacking out. There were some real nasty sand banks and head high hollow s.breaks last weekend which made getting out on a pure onshore wind a challenge, but once out it was great. Sailed for about 90mins full throttle on my 6.5m Ezzy and the F2, but it just kept getting stronger, sailed overpowered for another 30 mins before calling it quits. Fun and fast. Saw lots of small sharks too, the water was so clear.

N.Sinka: No sign of my gear yet, but have wheels and my big gear so I can get out occassionally. Insurance paid out some $$ recently so i am ordering some kit off mark soon. Southside MR is the go in a NE. It is cross-onshore (about 30-40 degrees). There are a lot of rocks in the water on the south side at the moment, more than I have ever seen before in 10 years of sailing there, so much sand sucked away, so watch your fin......or better, walk your gear 20metres down the beach from the rocks and launch. I have sailed Bonny's in a NE many times when i lived there, always mushy surf as the waves are unprotected, on the Sth side of MR the waves wrap around the end of the rocks and peel on through - never that big usually, say anywhere from waist to head high and not that powerful.. The rocks there mean the wind can be gusty on the inside on your first trip out, but it is never a BIG issue, and the pay off is better waves. It is a pretty good place to start your wavesailing as it is usually pretty tame and with cross-on wind it is easy to get out, whereas starting out in dead onshore may frustrate you as you need to navigate the shorebreak and tacjk your way out. When I get some more wave gear i will let you know, i am hAppy to sail there with you and point out whats what to give you a feel before we really get into it next spring.

Other kids got picked up so I packed my gear and my 2 kids and dragged them along kicking and screaming....well not really they wanted a swim. Got to MR and drove straight onto the beach, the car park up top was crowded and I was excited. Damn even the kiters were packing up, the wind dropped off to around 5 knots as the stormy clouds were coming in from the west. That's killed any chance of the 20-25Knot NE that we were expecting.

Adam, drove down 100metres and there was some good sand. Those big stones have got worse haven't they. Real fin/box killers.

So have you decided if you are going to go with a long waveboard as well as a wave shortboard? I reckon a long style of board fits in well in our area. If it blew even 12-15 I would've taken the Kona out but it didn't even reach that.

Wind died today as I drove out my driveway. Went to Crowdy instead and paddled around sans sail, wind almost zero.
I need to get the deepwater waterstart happening with the new board, but reckon lack of wind is my biggest problem in that department (boom misses the board even at lowest cutout connection). Once I have that sorted, there'll be no stopping me! Looks like all the sand from south MR has travelled to DH! I am getting quite good at getting out on full onshore, but the killer is the random big dumper out the back.
When I was surfing at MR several years ago I nearly bumped into a whale, just lolling around drawing a crowd. Head down paddling like mad to get out through the breakzone, it alerted me to its presence with a humungous noisy water spouting ..... frightened the c..p out of me!

You sound like me..I've been meaning to get back out at Nobby's for old times sake & just cruise out the back but conditions never seem right..
