My 170 Enigma slalom boom has boom collars that cracked quite early on. This is the collar, not the clips. Not a big deal for a couple of years till one side seized up & refused to allow the boom to be adjusted in or out. I bought some new collars & removed the dodgy one but the replacement , whilst it looks the right size and says it is for this boom, is so tight I can't slide it onto the boom arm. If they are this tight it's no wonder they crack! Has anyone had the problem ? I thought of putting it in hot water & using hair dryer to warm it & then seeing if I could force it on but haven't tried that yet as I am a handyman disaster and scared to bugger it up. Help please.
Or here's a thought, did Severne change the fitting/boom diameter a tiny bit without telling me?

They will be tight, its how they stay put. Find something flat thats going to absorb some of the impact (a piece of wood wider than the collar worked for me) and give it some gentle encouragement with a hammer. They will slowly go on. They will probably lose some plastic off the inside too, so stop before it gets all the way on and remove the plastic scrapings so they dont get in the way of the collar going all the way on.

make sure youve got them lined up before you start hitting with the hammer.

Im guessing the old ones cracked off? When i took the old ones off mine i had the opposite dilemma...

I had the same tightness with my Unifiber boom . Soaked in hot water for a minute then as above.
Tip , with some fine sandpaper slightly round of the end of the tube just to get rid of the sharp edge .

Thanks guys. I also emailed severne and they will send new collars. Hopefully they will fit otherwise I will try banging it on as you suggest. I wonder if some lubrication would help (i mean for the boom not me although a bit for me might help as well ). The lubricant would have to dry out otherwise the collar might twist around and it would preclude gluing.

Bruce I recently tried to replace my boom collars and clips on my 180-226cm Severne Enigma, the collars supplied did not fit. The boom arms are 36.5mm thick and the supplied collars are only 35.7mm are these the same size as what you have?

No Andy, mine is the smaller 170 boom, smaller diameter. But I heated the collar in hot water and banged it on successfully. Severne guy said to do that and was very tight but went on. Severne were very helpful.

For anyone else wanting to do this that doesn't want to hammer something onto a carbon boom I found putting them in the oven at 110 degrees worked much better. I boiled mine on the stove for 5 minutes and it did nothing to soften them. A few mins in the oven and I could easily push them on by (gloved) hand.

yeah this **** is garbage, mine cracked, and i cbf replacing them cause they are such a fkn prick.

severne fix yo ****

Replaced in my Enigma wave 140-190, put in the oven 6.30 minutes at 110^C, a bit of soap in the boom will help the slide, take the collar with a giove and be vero quick to put in the boom turning fast left and right. If you are not able to insert at all, put again all the boom part inside the oven for not more than 2 min. (more than one time if needed). The new shape of the collars with the beak in the upper part does not allow to use the hammer!
It works and is quite easy.
