I just bought a brand new Severne Turbo 9.2 (hard to tell if it is 2013 or 14)
I didn't have the chance to go to the water but I was rigging it in my yard
Considering winds from 8 to 14 knots
Downhaul: I an not sure how much to pull. The 504 cm luff measurement goes from the sail top to the tack strap or to the sail pulley? In most extensions, if you set it to 15 cm and then measure from the collar of the extension when it meets the mast to bottom pulley the result might be 20 cm
Basically in my older sail (SW NX 9.0 2002) I just downhaul till the upper 3 panels are loose (without counting the one on top of the top batten) and outhaul just a bit to prevent the sail from resting on the boom. I did the same with the Turbo but looks that doesnt want to rotate as easily.
The outhaul should be a 2 finger pull or harder to allow more rotation?
More downhaul would improve rotation?
I am going to remove the factory camber spacers to see if it helps with the rotation.
I believe I got a great light wind sail but I will need some help to make it work correctly.
Would it help to use some WD40 on the cam-mast contact areas?

504 luff means 490 mast +14 cm on extension - as marked on the sail
Maui Sails asks you measure the mast and extend the 14 cm to bottom of pulleys - if your mast is 490
on their MS-2 that is what i did and it rotated fine

for outhaul - of 227 as indicated on iwindsurf ...
with a boom of 220 - add 7 cm to the boom
you outhaul to the power you want
personally busted some battens when too tight a leech on a free-race

do NOT use WD40
there are water lubricants like McLube and others

Hi Rod, didn't have the 9.2 but owned an 8.6 & 7.5m Turbo both from 2011 but they haven't changed much. Both mine worked (and are still fine) well straight out of the packet. I haven't had to add or remove spacers, only adjust batten tension to remove wrinkles on a couple of the battens.

I was using the correct Enigma mast and Severne's own race HD extension I set it to the recommended settings and it was floppy until the forth batten which made the sail feel light and not overpowered. Just use minimal outhaul to take the slack up.

One thing that I did notice was that the foot of the sail came well past the bottom of the extension so I actually backed off the extension by 2cm which aligned the foot of the tack with the bottom of the extension but keeping the sail floppy until the forth batten, by doing this you will go block to block.

The Fiberspar may be a little stiffer in the lower section than a Severne mast which will create more pressure on the cams. Remove the spacers and make sure you have enough downhaul. Top two panels on mine are usually loose to about 3/4 of the way from leech to mast. Leech is slightly loose right down to panel above boom. Outhaul shouldn't really impact the rotation if everything else is right.

If you can try to get yourself a higher percentage carbon content hard top mast, it will make loads of difference

Here are the photos of his sail rigged. It looks some what (leech) loose from the first photo but the second photo seems to lack downhaul. Ideas?

Doesn't look too bad, maybe a touch less downhaul, I am only talking 0.5-1cm here. Also the outhaul just needs to be tied off, neutral works unless the wind increases loads.

Oh and and a touch of batten tension to those lower two battens.

BCWind, I have a 8.1 turbo. Really nice sail. Plenty of lightwind power, and light in the hands. They are quite loose in the leech. If you tighten the leech by releasing some downhaul the cams will come off the mast in gybes. Here's a photo of mine. With the severne 90% mast. In the photos below the sail is set to spec.

Looks like Steve's sail has a bit more downhaul
Yesterday I rigged with more downhaul, using the chinook crank, and I was able to rotate by pumping. But it is still very hard.
I am considering filing the back of the cams with a rattail file

BCWind, at the recommended downhaul setting my turbo rotates super easy. Almost too easy. I'd guess your problem is the mast, not being a severne mast, it won't have the right curve profile, thus the cams aren't tensioned/placed correctly on the mast, and don't rotate as smooth as they should.

What model is your sail? mine is the same but I don't know if it is 2013 or 14

13 and 14 are the same. Turbos are in a 2 year development cycle.

I have just purchased the 2013 Turbo 7.5m. Rigged in the yard with a 100% enigma mast with the red bottom section. Rigged to spec and checked and no spacers in the cams. Haven't had a chance to sail it yet as there has been zero wind of late, but felt near impossible to rotate in the back yard. Hope it improves on water. Loved the no zippers for cams, always a bit of a weak point in sails and fast to put the cams on.

Yip Joe's spot on, most of the time rotation is an issue with the mast curve (but as others have mentioned spacers and batten tension), I've had Turbo's (great sails before i moved to reflex's) on other masts and had the same issues. Do you have the hard/constant/soft top version of the Fibrespar?

In the graph above you'll see Severne sits in the cusp of the hard to constant curve boundary, if you have a soft top then you'll be in trouble but potentially still have difficulty with a constant curve. Sail Works are almost the opposite (sitting bordering on constant to soft). This may be contributing to your problems

Ideally if you could locate a Severne Blue Line 490 for a good price as they are older stock you would have the ideal mast.
