Why the stupid patch on the foot. If it's to stop chaffing on the edge why wouldnt they wrap it around the bottom as well. I don't think any of my sails have been damaged there.

In my opinion Mr. Severne knows what he is doing.

He does but this just seems like a after thought, like we've made the sail but oh ** we forgot to re enforce that bit of the foot, lets just stick a bit of cloth there and hope no one notices

If you've ever had a toenail ripped off you will appreciate the attention to detail.

I too heard it's to stop toenails getting injured because the foot sits flush on the deck!
...and it's not April yet!!!

Next year they will remove it and claim their new model is lighter than this old one.

I do sometimes get my toe nail scraped by the foot of the sail.

sometimes strange things happen, misunderstanding during production? I think it's right to investigate.

Is it a sleeve? if so I guess that's where you store your knitting needles.

Is it a wear patch, i.e does it coincide with the location of the front footstrap?

Yes it lines up with the rear foot straps, I noticed it was rubbing on the rear straps in that spot when gybing, seems a good idea to me, any weight it adds would be tiny.
