Hi Guys.

I'm considering buying a secondhand sail that's got a small neat hole in the upper panel about the size of a 5c piece and was caused off the water (stick or something). It's in the mono and has clear tape over it. Doesn't look like it'll spread, but I'm a bit cautious. Is it something I should be concerned about or do these things tend to be okay once taped. Other than the small hole, the sail's in great condition.
Cheers

It will be fine, especially if it's in a top panel.

I have bought a couple of sails like this in the past year or so. Like said above it should not be a problem. Depending on a few factors such as how much/hard you are going to use it youcan get good deals on slightly damaged gear and this then can make toy less precious about it if something breaks. On the other hand you don't want to be going out in gear that is so bad its guaranteed to fail. Make sure the price is a suitable reflection of the fact that is damaged. You can also always redo the taping yourself with proper repair tape if I doubt.

If the panel rips there are plenty of sail makers out there who can repair it for a reasonable price. Perhaps factor in the cost of a repair into the price.

Quite a few of mine have repairs like that and still going strong..upper panel shouldn't cost much to repair but probably not worth it anyway..

Make sure it's taped on both sides and it will last for years.
The top panel is very lightly stressed so it's unlikely to cause any problems.

Get yourself lots of sponsors. The stickers will hold up the sail well.

Gorilla tape is the bomb, a piece on each side of a tear, after removing any salt residue, will probably out last the remainder of the sail.
Just a bit of info for y'all.
