Ive tried S2 Maui 2018 8.4m n 7.7m on North Gold. Didnt like to play the game. Diameter of mast at cams was larger on North. Wouldnt rotate properly. Bend curve was different. Maui slightly stiffer up top. Really had to use the S2 MAUI mast.

The North Platinum's have a really unique diameter - flared out at the bottom to take an SDM extension, but then immediately and rapidly tapering beneath the boom clamp point to a weird mid-diameter through the rest - smaller than regular SDM but larger than RDM. It's quite a different diameter to my North Silver and Red masts which have a larger diameter all the way through with a gentle even taper from base to tip. I don't have a North Gold to compare so don't know if it's more like a silver/red or the platinum, but don't discount the fact that the platinum masts do have a unique diameter geometry, and you may need to try your get feedback specifically about the platinum mast, if it is indeed different to the gold.

^ The Gold is standard SDM shape. Not the North 'Dropshape' mast.

I thought the drop shapes were old masts .

Platinum is dropshape, but the bend curve is the problem, think is more soft top than Maui s2...

Quite a few guys use S2 Maui Venoms where I sail. From what I've heared they tried several different masts including North. However none gave the same performance, rotation and light rig feel as the S2 Maui mast.

Doesn't say the sail won't work with North but you're sure you'll be lacking performance.

Has anyone tried them with Loft Sails masts? According to both websites the bend curves are very close.

S2 Maui rigged on my North was too soft in the upper third of sail. Correct downhaul saw leach looseness V almost to MAST between batten 2-3... Wouldnt rotate. The S2 mast is definately the one to use if you want sail to play nicely.

Olskool, thank you for your help... I will have to go buy a 4.90 mast, I like the venom 8.4 because don't need a 4.90...just curiosity, Your mast north is from what year?
