This is what happened to me today. Straight onshore solid fat 25 knots. After 20 mins on a 6.8 ( small as I had at the time ) I was totally knackered crying for mamma . Dragging my sorry ass up the beach , stopped to talk to a couple kitesurfers rigging up. Looking at the big 12 metre kite this guy was struggling with I mentioned it's bloody windy out there even for a fat bastard like me. Without looking up at me he barked at me " yeah that's what we want " Feeling like a tool I turned around and walked off. Now I don't want to generalise but are kitsesurfers the road pushbikers of water ? Gets me thinking , the nice kiters I've talked to are the old converted windsurfers . Thinking more ... Does kiting turn u into a dick or are u a dick before kiting ? This is the fun part . Only because it happened to me and I was angry. 30 seconds later I heard a yell as I saw this guy lift 2 metres I the air and fly 10 metres into the shrubs and drag another 20 metres on his stomach motocross style. If it wasn't for the old dead pine that totally trashed his kite he would have ended on the road with cars and powerlines. My theory is , to be going fast on water should be fun , not be a grumpy **** ! . " yeah that's what we want " , " yeah that's what he got " ! Still chuckling now ! I'll still be nice to everyone on the beach even after this, or I may as well give it up.

Imax, where did you sail.....it didn't look that windy in Melbourne?

Yep, what a tool, I wish all the old polers didn't now all kite, they are giving us a bad name. lol

Thinking of trying kiting but I don't want to go to the dark side ! Should I do it or should I stay with the complex thing I'm doing ?

Bwahaha, stick with the complex system of a sail stuck to the top of a board I reckon, my theory is that at least it can't drag me through the carpark and across the power lines.

Wanting plenty of wind did not get me upset , I respect racers or extreme who love this stuff ( if only I comfortably could !) It was his up himself ass attitude that pissed me off. If u were there u would have agreed in his douchebagness.

Not excusing him, but he may not have rode for weeks, could have had a bad day at work, then bashed through 2 hours of road works, to get to the spot and rigging up madly to get out there. I've been rude to people too in similar circumstance, but apologised afterwards. I can relate to a bad day at work or with family putting people in a frame of mind. Again, no excuse, it's just an explanation.

Yeeep. When I rigged my 8.0 Gaastra almost exclusively on such occasion people on SB almost lynched me too...But solid 25-30 ktn in some places on GC means more like 20 on open waters in the Bay , I learned later when 7.0 was quite handful on some races....
