Getting rather sick of spending $$$ on board covers where the fabric is brittle and splits and ends up with the padding falling out. If you can recommend a durable brand please let me know

Interesting. I had the FO bag in mind as an example of a useless board bag. I think I must've had the 'board bag' with the white bottom made out of that tarpaulin type material. If youve ever pulled an old tarp out of the shed and had it disintegrate in your hands, then youll understand my problem. It was only a year old.

Never seen an issue with their tarp material. Batch issue...?
Anyway yes the travel cover is considerably more durable, but the board bag should still last years...

I've had two old "Heavy Duty" Neil Pryde board bags for eight years. Still going strong. The inside lining (a very small area - size of a 50c piece) in one of the bags is going brittle and cracking, but this will take a few years for it to become a problem.

I've got three Gun Sails "Air Travel" bags. One I've had for five years. The only fault is discolourisation on the sun facing side (board/bag is roof mounted). The other two were purchased in 2016. They have the same quality as my five year old bag, so quality continuity is good.

If I was to ever buy a new bag, I would try to get an old HD Neil Pryde bag (which I don't think are available anymore). Failing that, a Gun Sails Airtravel.

Most importantly heavy duty zip (the plastic teeth ones) and not the continuous coil that always seize up.

Flying objects and Simmer.I also regularly use Silicone spray on the zips even if they are plastic.

+1 Flying Objects Travel Cover. I have a couple that are 10 years old and still look like they have another 10 years in them.

Sorry to hear you have had an issue with one of our board bags.

For some reason people prefer this material on bags, yes it is cheaper and does reflect the sun to minimise heat absorption. In general I would prefer not to use this type of material but it has been the best out of many we have tried over the years. A lot of these reflective materials either delaminate or break down quicker than the 600D Polyester that we use on the Travel Covers.

For the best durability the Travel Covers are the way to go, they are thicker padded, use 600D Top and Bottom and also have the chunky #10 YKK zip and sliders to avoid corrosion.

Yes the FO travel covers are good, mainly for the YKK zipper. I've had a an old board bag (not a FO) that used a YKK zipper and brass slider (i.e the same as on your wetsuits) and a similar polyester exterior - it's lasted 20 yrs (I've had it reshaped). For me its always been the zippers that have failed - spiral with an metal zipper - fails every time no matter what you try and cover the slider with. Plastic sliders are too weak and wear quickly, meaning the zipper won't close. I really like the prolimit board bags in regard to the side wall shape and padded tail, however it was let down due to the zipper and reflexive bottom material degrading quickly.

Travel cover - What about adding a velcro flap to cover the fin slot. Handy when you are traveling over seas and you want to keep it fully closed. I've added them to mine. Keep the bottom colour light to reduce the heat. Personally I haven't had a problem with the white plastic bottom material on the board bag range.
Board bag range - the zipper, the sliders still corrode and seize. A YKK zipper and slider like on the travel cover range would be a winner. I like the reflective nature of the white plastic bottom and haven't had a problem with it. As per above, a Velcro flap for the fin slot would be good to.

Other - Windsurf roller- fantastic product, best out there. I would love to see a 250x70 bag added to the range. This would capture the free rider traveller. I have both the 240x60 and 265x80, however a 66-68cm wide board sits in no man land and you pay the extra weight for no need with the 265x80
