Advice needed. I have a new atlas 6.5, which is supposed to be compatible with either a 430 or 460 rdm. I have an SPX430 pryde mast and pryde extension. Today rigged for first time with extension set at 32, recommended setting (the top hole). I was nowhere close to enough downhaul. At least another 50mm needed is my guess, if not more.

Have pryde just got this wrong? I've checked and rechecked and don't think I'm doing anything wrong.

Best way forward? Is there a longer extension I could try? Otherwise bite bullet and get a 460rdm, but I was trying to keep my gear streamlined.

Any advice/insights appreciated.

Yeah I had a l look, the atlas 6.5 has a luff length of 472, meaning to use a 430 you would need around 44 cm of extension.
I would recommend if you want to use the 6.5 with a 430 then you should get a longer extension. However using an extension that long isn't ideal if you are a heavyweight or are sailing in decent size waves.
I have a Chinook 48cm RDM carbon extension which I think is the longest on the market

As per previous post, your 32 cm extension isn't nearly long enough. Not even sure why NP list 430 as an alternative mast as that seems not realistic.

one of these would get you the length but results may vary on a 430 as your mast bend curve will change

Thanks guys. I've been mislead. Even the settings on the sail are there in black and white: 430/32. Not even close. Weird.

Anyone have a 460 rdm they need to move on? :)

The dimensions printed on the sail can be wrong too, due to stitch tension, cloth alignment etc and I've had sails in the past that are 10cm out, I also only ever use a mast with a max extension of less than 30cm otherwise you might be better off with a mast the next size up especially wave sailing where you don't want a big extension.

I had a NP Evo 8 7.0 which was 8cm out on the downhaul. I even checked with Robert Stroh the designer, he was very surprised.
Once corrected it was great, printed wrong, cut wrong, who knows!!

Worth considering a tip extension.

Seems to be a simple misprint on the sail, the luff length appears to be 472cm for the 2025 model.
If the luff was 462 it would only need 2cm extension on the 460 mast. Perhaps they have confused the numbers on the 6.5 with the ones for their 5.2 sail, with extension settings of 32/2 depending on mast choice.

On the other hand, they don't seem to offer any 460 RDM masts...?

That doesn't make any sense. I would go back to the place where you purchased the sail and discuss this with them.

Yes has been 'discussed'. We're trying the long extension solution first up. Comments about long extension noted but I'm not much of a wave sailor (some might say not much of a sailor!), so the slightly bodgy solution should work OK.
Beyond that, I'll keep an eye out for a cheap mast...

Not a misprint - that is the IMCS.

NP don't make a 460 RDM. Patrik make a long RDM extn. does the sail have and adj head?

a long extn will be a lot cheaper than a mast. If you're intending to use this size a lot then get a mast.

Two 100% choices from NP X100 or TPX100 in RDM 460
But getting one in stock local may be a challenge

Yep I edited my message after I had a look. See my following post. Not sure how original stayed posted? RDM in 460 is a relative new thing for NP

No adjustable head. Long ext is on the way

Yeah and the price...
Not feasible for me at the moment.
