Answer one questions:

"Why does marine grade stainless steal rust after a few hours in the ocean?"

Might be a bit more something for a second year engineering student with access to a metallurgical lab but there you go.

It is NP grade. Easily answered.

A Pivoting footstrap system where you leave your feet in the straps while gybing, but the pair of foot straps pivot 180 deg on the board

There is something like this called the moaB repositioner . us patent 8870615. possibly the jp design? Anyone tried making one - looks fairly straight forward but the devil will be in the detail

Expandable board, example, take a 100 ltr board and add width with detachable rails to increase width by 20cm and volume by 20-30 ltrs turning the board into a light wind cruiser.( I would have wider footstrap mounts incorporated in rail expanders)

How about a tapered side deep Tuttle box to get the good aspects of powa box and Tuttle box together. Make it big enough to take an adapter so people can use any fin in their new board with the new Oscar box. Then we can have strength of deep Tuttle or Tuttle and ease of fit of power box and no more sanding or bogging fins.

And make them so that a Tuttle or Power box fin could be moved forward or back (multiple bolt holes with plugs for the unused ones?), I hate that about those fins, can't move them.

SAFETY IDEA

Add some kind of adjustable force release safety mechanism for our harness lines.

To my mind, the hooked in full speed catapult is the most dangerous type of crash, as you go from full speed to zero instantaneously, and the harness drags you straight into the mast/boom.

Most conference straps now include an anti-strangle safety release, it would be nice to have something similar on the harness lines, with an adjustable release system so the pressure required to release could be adjusted above a particular sailors preferred power level.

And an air bag for the crashes too

A folding fin system for long fins that will fail gracefully when you hit the bottom at speed.
It should fold or fall out without damage to the fin box or board and if it falls out it should have a tether so it doesn't get lost.
The fin should be easily reinstalled on the water.
Ideally it should be compatible with tuttle and deep tuttle boxes.

Got two of theses, ones on a Mistral OD and works great. The other is a power box and its crap, hit anything and it breaks off, falls to the bottom leaving you to sail home with no fin. Worse is now you have to shell out another $250 for a fin

That's why you need the tether :)

How about a mast foot for a SUP that doesn't have one built in? Most have a hand slot for carrying, perhaps something that can expand in the slot to clamp in place? Could be useful for some light wind duty.
